I'm the same wouldn't have minded him as a stop gap this year when we were struggling for a 7, but if we time to plan, we should be aiming higher.
Reminds me of a poorer version of Sneyd.

Was going to put that last night but didn't want to seem tok harsh
Going into next year, I'd be tempted to move Trueman to 7 and go find a top 6

I think when he signed it was on a 2 year with a further 12 months in our favour.

Unless he has an outstanding season i doubt the club will want to extend his contract.
He is in no mans land at the moment filling in at half back and unless Walker is injured cant see him getting the full back spot.
If Trueman can get back to fitness and form then i can see Brown and Trueman in the halves which again leaves Hoy treading water
His only hope is to try and develop a running game at six

| I reckon we'll need new pivots again next year, because I do think Brown will only stay for the one season and Smith trying Cator at hooker suggests that Balmforth isn't in his plans, as he is a specialist hooker and would seem the obvious back up for Houghton, while Brown has a spell in the halves, so a halfback and hooker must be high priority if that is the case. I do think Russell is a competent halfback, but not really the answer unless that is the type of player our finances/budget will allow. We really could do with Jack Charles to be knocking on the door, he is really well thought of and that would be fantastic news if he can make the grade. I look at Hoy's size, speed and footwork and wonder if he wouldn't make a good centre, but I appreciate that isn't the position he has played or was signed to play, but as others have said, Walker is a better fullback and unless he has a stellar season in the halves, it wouldn't make sense to re-sign him at the end of this season.

Balmforth must have been in a majority of 1 for his flight there.
Most men who go to Thailand on their own, don`t go there for the the Thai Boxing.

While I wouldn't have said no to him coming here...is 3 years from next season a bit long? He's 32 in April with a lot of NRL miles on the clock.

Yes quite a gamble and I guess he'll be a marquee signing.
Might get their crowds up to 6k.

| Really need some youngsters to come through and show some talent.
As until we can afford 3 marquee signings, i think we l always struggle for quality depth and a gulf will remain between those who can afford the marquee signings.
Harsh reality unfortunatley.

Think that’s about the nub of it in all honesty. Think this season has been and is more about clearing the decks and getting the club back on sounder financial footings following the cost the club and AP took following COVID.
Hopefully an improvement on the collapses the last few seasons and the beach towels not being put out until the end of the season instead of July will see the club in a better position come the next off season.
Seems Watson is signing aging players again in Burgess who no doubt has been a solid performer in the NRL but still feel it’s a gamble on a player that age

| To be honest I'm jealous, think its a fantastic signing, even at his age, he is a top NRL prop and won't count on the quota.
Sad times, a few years ago, we would have been at least in for him, but doubt we even made an offer, remember when we use to pat 6 figure fees for players or even take better players from Hudds, Cas and Rovers.
Got to hope the long term. approach pays off and we can back to signing these types of players.
