Quote: carl_spackler "Isn't Radford's contract up at the end of next season?

How expensive do we think he probably is? Because in all honesty, if it's a choice between the 2 I think it would be smarter investment to ditch one of or even all of these deals Tony has apparently lined up for next season and use the money to pay Radford off. I think we'd get more from a better coach with the same players than some better players under the same coach.'"

I agree with you fully.

From AP's broader perspective gates are down say 1000 a game at £15 so £15k a game or £165k for the season. Say Radford's on £60k with a deal to November 2016 so in theory needs £90k to be paid out. There's quarter of a million quid unbudgeted shortfall - folk need to be realistic about the extent of change that can accommodated.

2 proven guys are available.. Matt Elliott & Mick Potter.. they would do a far better job than Radford.

Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?:

Seriously you can't say they both wouldn't be an improvement on Radford?

As for you previous point. They wouldn't have to come right this moment. If it means getting the right man I'd be happy to wait until the end of the season with Horne taking the reigns until the end of the year. At least the fans would have something to look forward to and know that something is being done. The Agar days were bad, but I can't remember the general mood among fans ever being this bad.

Quote: ccs "Who's this new coach everyone wants? I don't see one available and willing to come. You're kidding yourself if you think it's that easy.'"

1) Who said it was easy?
2) How many connections do you have in world rugby league?
3) Why are fans expected to know who is or isn't available?
4) Is it unreasonable to think that people involved in the game and at our club will have a bit more knowledge than us fans about who is available?
5) Do you think that Radford is the best coach we can possibly hope for? That we couldn't find anyone (not one person) better?
6) Almost everything worth doing is not easy if done right.

Things are not working. They aren't even getting better. It's not even as if we are doing ok, safe and sound but not great, we are in a relegation battle. The sensible thing to do in such circumstances (at least if you want things to improve) is to try something different. Sticking with things as they are is either defeatist or madness.

You previously stated "Who would come mid-season?"

This is an option I have stated, they would come mid-season, as they are unemployed,

Or.. Shall we employ yet another unproven Assistant??
the next Agar,Gentle or Radford. -take your pick.

And of course the flip side of that is that (in your example) not spending that £90k may cost another £165k next season. So spending £90k now may effectively save him £75k. So like I said, possibly just sign one less player and it might end up being covered. Sign 2 or 3 less and you give yourself some funds for a new coach.

I'd honestly rather see a weaker squad with a good coach for 1-2 years than a stronger squad going to waste. At least that way it would hopefully be temporary whilst we bring some fans back in with good rugby and a team playing to it's capability, and money coming back in could then be spent on the squad again.

Problem is now, peoples patience has run out. It was getting that way under Agar but he got binned and we believed again for a while.
Gentle came in, and to me he was underwhelming. I think people think of him more fondly now because of how bad it is under Radford.
The fact we have maintained the crowds we have, despite perennially underachieving, speaks volumes for the loyalty of the FC Fans.
Patience has gone now though. No more jam tomorrow. And you can't blame people for turning away and finding something else to spend their ever diminishing money on.

You don't have an argument. You said I'm kidding myself if I think it's easy to find a coach. I don't think it's easy, and have never claimed it to be.

I don't work in rugby league. I'm not on familiar terms with any coaches or agents in rugby league. Therefore I don't know which coaches are willing/looking to move clubs, or how much they cost. That doesn't mean there is none. You don't seem to be able to grasp the concept that people in the game will know more than us about such matters.

Adding in your seeming requirement that our new coach should not be someone who is currently out of work after being sacked is just strange IMO. Plenty of coaches are sacked at some point in their career, it's the nature of the beast. A coach being sacked somewhere has absolutely no bearing on whether or not they are better than Radford.

Care to expand?

I don't want Horne to be given the job, but the sooner Radford and Last leave for me the better. If that happens Horne is pretty much last man standing, so if he acts as caretaker for a few months with a proven replacement coming in at the end of the year then I'm fine with that. He certainly can't do a worse job than Radford is doing.

I can, and do, grasp the concept. It's pity more people on here don't.
