| I find it funny that many on here say give Miller a chance yet nobody gave Danny Nicklas one even though I cannot see much of a difference in quality between the two players. I constantly here that peoples first choice half backs should be Rankin and Miller too when Miller was the epitomy of average last season and a turnstile in defence and Rankin has played just one trial game. For me the first half backs name on the team sheet (injury permitting) should be Horne with Miller/Rankin as his partner. To go into the season saying our first choice half backs should be two kid second grade aussies just epitomises the complete lack of knowledge most on here seem to possess

Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?: |

Maybe Miller's getting a chance because he doesn't have a bad attitude? Nicklas however was a complete tool, and he was .

Miller in the Castleford widnes home Huddersfield home games particularly showed plenty for me. Pace footwork delayed passes etc. More than Nicklas did in his games. Added to which he had no pace at all and a rubbish attitude it would seem
Our decision to release would seem a bad 1 if he was at another superleague team but he isn't.

Miller is also a project, unfortunately he has been signed as first choice scrum half on a relatively high salary.
Is it wise to sign a project on a high salary to play in the most pivotal position in the team?

How many accounts does Tony Sutton have on here FFS?

You don't need to be Tony Sutton to have a ball park idea.
Players, ex-players will have an idea for example, while most people could hazard an educated guess.
Personally I'd be suprised if Miller was on less than 100K given the NRL market and our circumstances.
You might think he is on much less or it's none of our business and that's fine, however I think it's very relevant when you look at why we continue to struggle at half back and don't have a top 4 team when we are a big, long-established SL club spending to full cap.

It's only relevant if you can find a top class proven half back who is willing to join the club on the same salary as Miller. There aren't any.

Seriously?
Miller did more in his first match for the club than Nicklas did in his, albeit limited, appearances.
And Nicklas's attitude stinks.

It is relevant because Miller is on a long-term contract, which makes it difficult if and when a better option becomes available. In other words it would be better to keep your powder dry.
The key to success under the salary cap is 1) spending it in the right areas of the team, and 2) ensuring that players - whether paid low or high - provide good value for money.
For me, and I hope to be proved wrong, Miller looks to be a good example of where we have been going wrong for years.

| Miller has to be on a decent amount as his signature prevented us from being able to offer Briscoe a deal when his Aussie deal fell through. There's nothing we can do about that though , that was either a good or bad recruitment decision. Having brought him in we really need to give him some time to see if he can repay that faith. I don't see he's done that much wrong to date especially playing behind a pack that everyone seems to think is made up of players who individually play well every week but who are constantly out muscled week in week out. I wasn't at Bradford but whilst there wasn't much criticism of the forwards from the fans the reports suggested that Bradford were in control for much of the game and able to make yards at will. The lack of last seasons scrambling defence meant they scored too easily. In attack too often our half backs/pivots were on the back foot when it came to kicking or setting plays generally as a result of slow play the balls and sloppy acting half play. That don't make anything easy for a young aussie halfback regardless of how much he gets paid. Give him and Rankin a platform and some time and then judge them....and the forwards.

If he fails after being given some time then I agree with you. Our recruitment has been haphazard and done under pressure for years. It's very difficult to turn it around especially when there is a regular change of coach and the various previous coaches signings have long contracts.

Hows Willie Mason doing? Helping Enoch Powell and his fellow PNG world cup star settle in?

| Just for comparison, Miller's competition for his place this year will come from a former GB international with over 300 top-level appearances and a fellow Australia schoolboys player, Nicklas will be up against someone who hasn't been full time since 2010 (albeit talented in his prime) and last year's West Hull captain.
That's not just because a few fans were a bit unfair to Nicklas.
Also, if Miller doesn't produce the goods and didn't happen to finish the season with us, I very much doubt he'd be having to look for a championship club to continue his career.
