Quote: Staffs FC "Maybe Gentle would prefer the extra ball playing ability of Horne at FB which Shaul has not yet brought to the side. I don't think that Gentle will pick anyone at all based on sentiment but he might potentially want extra creativity. And at FB a lack of match fitness could be overcome easier. If he picks Horne I could easily see why he would do so and would support the decision 100%. If Shaul gets the nod then that's fine by me as well I just don't dismiss Horne at FB like some on here are doing.'"

Personally,IF Horne is selected ahead of Shaul at FB,I feel it would be a disgraceful decision.

I believe up to today,Horne hasnt had one training session in 3 months, we cant afford to have ANY player who is 'under done' or not match fit- the only way I would select Horne, if Holdsworth or Miller were out.

I don't see anyone "dismissing" Horne, just stating facts that he hasn't played for months and Shaul has done nothing wrong.

I'm not sure anyone has 'dismissed' Horne, they're just saying that Shaul is looking like the better option. They both have an element of gamble to them, it's just that at the minute the question mark over how Shaul will cope with the occasion is outnumbered by the question marks over Horne's fitness, match sharpness, and form.

And I get what you're saying about Horne's better handling, but I don't think that Shaul has done too badly at that albeit not as accomplished as Horne. Shaul's pace and support play could equally be as useful for us to have, though.

If the players with injury doubts pull through I can not see how Horney can be picked. we don't need an extra ball player. We have DJ and Milky plus Houghton and Azza and also Westy. Options a plenty. Add in Whiting drifting in where required and for once I our lives we have an FC 13 awash with talent.
I also strongly feel that to pick RH at the expense of Shaul would fly in the face of the policy that Gentle seems to adopt. Namely keeping those in form in regardless of age or experience. We would never have seen Crooks and Lineham flourish as they have without that policy.
I am convinced in my own mind that there is an element of mind games, though I fear playing players who are not 100% fit at Wembley. as has been mentioned I too remember. Gary Kemble in 85. If he was fully fit we would have won. Senior in 05 was a brilliant selection by Smith. a046.gif

Players with experience are needed in major finals like this. I'm split on the decision of Shaul or Horne at FB (if fit). Horne hasn't played for a while and won't be match fit but I reckon it could be a difficult afternoon if Shaul was at FB. Don't get me wrong he is a prospect for the future and has looked okay in some game he has played but to be fair he hasn't played against anyone good! The teams he has played he has dropped a couple of high balls and looked average in defence. He has pace to burn and back up play is quality though. Who ever plays full back will get my full backing like the rest of the side, although some will be quick to slag players and coaching staff off.

Some tough decisions for Gentle, but I support his decision to pick his seventeen today.

In his current run of games I can think of one, which was incorrectly given as a knock-on. Which is the other?

I think he's looked pretty solid in defence TBH.

I can think of a few times he could have out his body on the line more to prevent tries. Dropped one against Salford and one against Hull KR. Hasn't been tested that much to be fair and I think Wigan will have plans to target him. I would if I was Wigan. Hope he comes out on top though. Can't deny his attack play, just worry about his defence which in my opinion is a fair comment because he hasn't been tested much and his inexperience.

Widnes, then went on to score a couple of blinders.

That's the thing, can't deny his attack ability. I don't know if I'm been over critical as we but a couple of KR's tries he could have done better in terms of defensive positioning and putting body on the line. He deserves his chance but wouldn't be overly surprised if experience was put at FB.

Horne's made howlers at fullback also , We'd also be swapping a fit player with one who hasn't played for months.
