i was at that game, 1985, i also remember going there in the early 90's only to find it had been called off, we took an army of fans there and nobody bothered to tell the fans, we ended up staying for a couple of hours and getting sh:tfaced

I was at both games too. Remember there were running battles outside the ground after the 85 game with police charging fans on horseback. The called off game, I'm pretty sure it was announced that the game was on by local radio on the day only to be called off at the last minute

I remember you had to park the coaches next to an estate and the locals used to wait across the green to bait/brick the fans as the coaches pulled off.

You're right about the game being on to start with. We turned up at the gates as the stewards were shutting most of the gates and turning people away. Iirc most of the Hull fans made a beeline for the Cricketers Arms outside the ground.
