Just had it confirmed by my mate (John McCracken who looks after the service area) and he confirmed that Watts had a scholarship with Hull FC at a similar time to Westerman. Looks like two good ones slipped through the net there for you.

We don't just sign 30 somethings though do we, we have just signed four players who are 20 or under in Green,Cunningham,Nicklas and Crooks also we have Lyne,Kent and Tom Briscoe. LMS will be going to Saints as they and Wire will continue to somehow break the salary cap and get away with it.

Yes that's right but it was Hull's decision not to keep him on, which is why he went back to Cas. Bad move looking at how the kids playing now. Then again things are always more clear in hindsight.

Is one of them hard calls, even when Rovers signed him he looked a very slender player but his development over the last 2 years has been massive. Even Cas let him slip too

He played a couple of times for us in 2008 looked ok then went to Gateshead for a spell on loan and looked very ordinary by all accounts. Came back got his chance and now looks a great prospect. Proves what putting a young player out on loan can do for their development. You may see something similar from Tuffor if you keep him.

i'll believe it if or when it's announced on the hull fc website icon_smile.gif

if we did sign fielden then it should be an alright signing IMO. we need to replace cusack with an english prop and there's not many around as good as fielden. if LMS goes to saints then you can't really blame him

we've got a young prop in sam moa so it's not all bad

if fielden is playing in our Uber-aggressive pack next season then he might re-discover some of his old form which would be fantastic

I'm undecided about whether he would be a good signing or not, he's got the experience of playing at the top level and winning the big trophies, but its another 30 something player, another one that could backfire on us.

Can see both sides of argument , he would replace cusack and is better so would improve us but again another 31 year old with his best days gone , also will be on a very good wage . Feel backs are more important at this time but doesn't mean we are not looking at them . Anyone enlighten me what peacock said about fielden in his book

Some interesting comments on the Wigan board when it was rumoured he'd signed a new deal there recently.

Surely a large amount of 'form' for a forward is down to fitness & mental attitude? Given he is very much the wrong side of 30 I think we'd be making a big mistake signing him.
As we've got noddy in charge again next year & we are going to go backwards rather than forwards in terms of our competitiveness I'd rather sign or promote from within somebody 10 years younger who is chomping at the bit rather than some over the hill pro on the verge of retirement.

Let me give you the facts.. no winks just facts.
We had been speaking to SF at length recently however there was shall we say some unease at various points in the discussions regarding the player himself and the conversations went onto other players however we have over the last 4 weeks discussed SF with his agent at length and as close as Monday he was discussed again and that is as far as it has gone as of lunchtime today!!
Same agent acted for Karl Price and Coley who were also all discussed at lentgh with Coley it seems opting for another one year deal at Wigan to then retire and concentrate on his own business interests and Karl Price is ongoing as it stands wether he is on contract or not!!

Back to SF he is prime age for a good prop as most decent props dont hit their straps fully till 30 plus anyway, however some mature quicker and some later but to call SF a spent force is laughable, he isnt the player he was at bradford I will give you that but he has played a lot of rugby since he was at Bradford which may have something to do with it..
RE his boxing match with Radford.. get real SF knew he was no boxer but had the guts to get in knowing he was up for a shoeing against one of SL true hard men who can box a bit too in Lee Radford , had a good dig all for charity and everyone had nothing but great things to say about him afterwards with Lee Radford himself calling him " one of his closest pals with a big heart" and very few would stay in the ring for long with LR.
With regards his punch he recieved from Willie Mason, I would put money on that punch cleaning out anyone from any sport and many boxers too!! SF caught it on the button and it simply compounded a tour he should not have been on anyway due to the death he had to a parent immediately before he left for OZ but hey lets keep going on about something that happened a long time ago huh..
If we were to sign SF we would be getting one of the most experienced props in world rugby who is at present playing some of his best rugby of recent times and would compliment our pack no end!! and would be a p[layer with some 4 years decent rugby still in him .

However as it stands we have no signed him as of lunchtime today !!
With regards
