| Do you think adding those 3 and losing say talanoa, manu and griffin would significantly improve us?

Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?: |
|
| We had a decent squad early in the season, followed by unprecedented injuries / loss of form of key players.
Talanoa, Manu and Griffin were getting the plaudits, but now appear to be out of favour, along with most of the rest of the squad, it seems.

Gelling and Jones would, hopefully the prop would be a Sam Moa type player. Naughton offers us good value for money.
Our squad isn't far off, just a bit of freshing up and more luck with injuries

| Right, I Have allowed myself a “cooling off period” since that abomination on Thursday.
A Few observations. The players need a leader as it is clear there is not on field talisman. The game was lost by half time but I would I’ll have thought professional pride would have seen us at least keep our heads above water in their second half. To let five tries in during the last 13 minuets screams out that many players take no prides in their performance. That’s not Radfords fault. Disgraceful attitude. 30 years ago we took a record defeat at st Helens (64-2). The HDM put an individual picture of the players involved on the back page. An ultimate humiliation. A shame I see it the current players have got away with this . They need to apologise to the fans and the owner publicly.
I thing there are a few posters on here who are aiming their venom at the wrong players. For me the criticisms of griffin and Talanoa I saw harsh to say the least. Centres and wingers rely on good service and being put into space. There was nothing wrong with either of these players at the beginning of the season, but then again they had Kelly, Sneyd and Conner pulling the strings. Both have also clearly come back way too early from major injuries.
THE main issue is our pack. This has been well documented, as has the retaining of aging and what appear largely to be ineffective backrowers. PErhaps with Pearsons comment said one or more of these maybe on borrowed time. WE need more from our full back. Shaul with the ball is basically a dead end.
Abdull! SHOUld have been the quickest acceptance of a transfer request ever.
players I feel we should move off the cap would be,
Shaul (can be covered by Connor or Miludi)
Logan
Green
Washbrook
Harris
Downs
Fash
One of Mini or Manu.
Bring in a massive prop, backrowers and a .
Radford. Needs help in attack. If you watch the leeds v hkr game on Saturday, that’s how how to play flair rugby. HE has until Easter or me to show he is the one to take us forward.
Pearson. He has said what he has said now. He must act on this.

Whether you love them or hate them HKR have always played attacking flair rugby. Why is that?
It also seems that most of the promising young players backs and Half backs are destined for HKR and we go for the forwards.
When it comes to the style of rugby played it has to be the coach.
Wigan have changed their attacking style this season and its no coincidence that the top four teams all have abundant pace, and play a fast moving attacking style.
No doubt in my mind that if Pearson hadnt or doesnt act by refreshing the squad and getting rid of some deadwood we would have been destined for a mid table finish next season.
With regard to Jamie Shaul i think he is under instruction from Radford to take the ball up from acting half back to give Houghton a breather as Houghton hardly ever breaks now from acting half, but i agree he is a dead end when it comes to his link attack ball in hand.
Just wish we have someone like Quinlan who has been exceptional this season.Miloudi is not a full back but i would still play him on the wing for Talanoa.
Pushing Connor to full back could be the answer but then we lose his real attacking threat as a centre.

Our best years under Morgan where underpinned by a good kick chase and a low error count. Last year we took a pragmatic approach to getting out of the Championship. We’ve had our moments from time to time, but I think you’re overstating things a little.
There’s nothing wrong with Radford’s preferred style of play and it has paid handsome dividends over the last couple of years. The difference this year is that you’ve had more injuries and some key players have retired or left. Plus now, maybe as a result of the downturn in results, your players seem dispirited or demotivated - shockingly so on Thursday.

Completely agree about hkr and their style of play. But this is not a recent thing. As far back as I can remember Hull FC were known for forward power whilst rovers were know for throwing the ball about. Not sure if its a thing which is passed down from chairman to chairman, but it is a common theme in playing style.
Connor at Full Back could well being out the best of whoever plays centre (including Griffin) as it would have opposition defences second guessing what will happen. At the moment its inevitable with Shaul at No1.
Pace is something we sadly lack. I think if Toronto dont make it up, going for MCB might be a plan?

You need the right personnel for it though. Even with a fully fit squad we lack size and aggression

But its now outdated as can be seen by the top four teams and even Wakefield and Huddersfield have had good seasons playing expansive RL.
I agree you need forward power as Catalan have showed late this season but Hull FC are lightweight now in the forwards and cant dominate teams like when we had Watts,Gaz Ellis and Frank Pritchard.
You can imagine the fear in some teams when they saw Gaz Ellis and Pritchard coming off the bench together.
Now no team fears playing Hull Fc and that has to change.
Undoubtably Lee Radford works his socks off and that seems to be recognised by Adam Pearson but i still dont think he is the coach to take the club forward.
We have been a good knockout football club but without the consistency that it takes to be a top team.

| I know we've had our injuries which have disrupted teh mid to latter part of the season but we have barely won an away game in over a year now. Only widnes, hull kr and them again at magic weekend in the last 12 months now I think. That to me is down to mental strength and attitude which is now coming through even more with the hammerings

Absolutely, and in the medium-term you need to fix that. Players returning from injury will help and it sounds like you’re going to buy or trade too. Getting some or all of your frontline halfbacks will help too.
The much-hyped group of youngsters who are now about 22, has now mostly drifted away or to the fringes of the squad, and the next batch are still very green. It was notable that Pearson emphasised that the additional players you’ll be bringing in won’t be kids for development, and I wonder if he feels a bit burned by how few of Turgut, HTW, Dean, Lancaster, Logan, Fash, Abdull, Matongo and Osborne have kicked on (so far).
More immediately, your 17 for Cas ‘just’ have to tackle anything that moves, and hope it wins overs the fans again even if it doesn’t necessarily win the match. Knock them off their stride and anything could happen.
