| i think the toughest choice here is whether to go for swain or houghton at hooker. both tremendous tacklers getting through a mountain of work but swain edges it for me with his distribution game management and all round play, but it is very close

| Personally I thought Jordan Tansey as worst fullback in past 10 years, he wasn't awful but recall in 2010 season he was first choice.
Quote: Dave K. "To be fair, not sure we have had a bad FB, in the last 10 years.
Thinking about it I'd put Craig Hall there instead of McKinnon.
Tommy Lee wouldn't be far off the side either'"

| Tansey wasn't too bad at all for Hull and had some good moments. Indeed in the dire Agar days he was one of our few attacking threats. Bit of an idiot though who could have done better for himself. Worst was probably Phelps who was solid but not exactly spectacular but he wasn't a poor player either.

| phelps and tansey were not bad players but never really got above average - kind of sums up the quality we had in the main for the years 2009 up until last year

Fair point, I've thought about the 2010 season and Tansey did have some good moments. Guess I meant he was one of our less naturally gifted full backs of last decade, but he still did a decent enough job.
Just watched a 24-24 draw we had with saints in June 2011. I was at the game, Sam Obst little chip over the top to set up a Yeamo try - one of the season highlights for me that year!

| Sam Obst! The most directionless scrum half I've ever seen in the top flight. Couldn't doubt his effort though, literally ran in circles.

Obst was signed as an interchange 9 who was forced into the halves due to Long dislocating his elbow. Tad harsh on Obst who did a reasonable job.

| I agree with your comments about Obst. Unfortunately he wasn't the only player in that era who was played in a position that didn't get the best out of their talents so that the overall team performance suffered. For example Washbrook in the halves, Fitzgibbon at 1st receiver and Berrigan anywhere but at hooker. Good players made less effective.

| Chris Thorman must be up there as well for one of the worst halfbacks after that away game at Cas I think it was? Matt Sing was another quota player we didn't see the best of

To be fair to Thorman, he did have a couple of good games (away at Bradford in 2009 being one).
Webster played once (after much hype) and performed like a punctured tyre. 100% of games played = pants.

| Yes I remember being at that match, Thorman was terrible that day at Cas, didn't he leave the pitch making gestures with his fingers towards FC fans as we was getting so much stick?! I'm sure that was the Josh Cordoba cameo match. Thorman was equally bad if not worse in the league defeat away at Leeds that season. Funnily enough his FC career started so promisingly on that very ground of Headingley in a pre-season friendly match, for JJB testimonial if I recall? I remember chatting to the FC fans who were there saying 'at last we have a halfback who will direct us round the park'
Remember cordoba for a few reasons, starting a fight with fozzard at rovers, and nearly snapping someone in half in catalan. Gabbing to his girlfriend all the way to france was a decent experience to
