| Quote: Diablo1967 "No one "Let" Briscoe or Lineham leave. They wanted to leave, we can't barricade them in the changing rooms, you know?
Every team has grafters; players who take the workload from others, who can play 80 minutes but are never going to be full international material. Washy, Whiting, Dowes all filled that role. We can't have a team of superstars due to the salary cap so a careful balance is critical and will prove a teams mettle.
By the way, players from teams below are often better than top 4. You do know Danny Brough was brought from York? Whiting from Fev? Shaul from amateur game? Hardaker? Scott Taylor?'"
But washy is hardly in his first year of breaking into superleague ische he was crap in 2006 had one decent game against Bradford in gf playoffs has hardly kicked on since we will be bringing back Tommy Lee next yawn!

| Are we really kicking off about Washbrook signing? I not sure he is needed, but he hardly a main signing, more of a squad player.

The best pack I have ever seen were in a team who were twice Champions in 3 consecutive finals and in 6 seasons were in 9 finals including 2 at Wembley. They did, however, have a World class Hooker and World class Loose forward plus a World class Coach.

| I think Washbrook's a very good signing. I can't believe people are calling him crap, everytime I've seen him play for Wakefield this year, he's always looked one of their best players. Even more credible as I think its more difficult to stand out with credibilty when the team is getting mullered each week.
Hardworking, puts in plenty of tackles, has a bit of creativity, can provide some relief at hooker when needed. Like it or not, Danny Houghton is an 80 minute player. We aren't going with 2 specialist hookers anymore.
Washbrook will be cheap and will also add extra cap value as a club trained player. I can't see any downside to it, to be honest. A very astute signing.

I remember putting his stats up earlier in the season in comparison to Westerman - and he made more breaks, more tackle busts, more assists. There were more errors and missed tackles but you can base that on being on the end of some awful scorelines

| Washy and Houghton will be the hookers next year.
He can also fit second row and 13 if needed too.
I still think there's a South Sea "Project" hooker on the cards. A cheap, Sam Moa player that has potential but will play for his keep.

Kirmond looked a world beater a few years back, everyone was sock filling saying we should sign him, he was Leeds bound etc.
Now hes garbage and cant even get on the Wakey bench.

I suspect you're right, unless Mini doesn't count because he has an Italian passport (I don't claim to know the rules).
Either way, isn't 7 overseas players more than enough when we are supposed to be building "Club Hull"?

| I really hope washy proves all the doubters wrong. Was gutted when he left but even more surprised he signed for agar who i think ruined his career at hull,2006 he was one of the best loose forwards in s.l but then agar decides to constantly play him at 6/7 were he tried hard but it was never going to be his position. At the end of 2006 i thought we'd found our loose forward for the next 10yrs but instead we play him at 6 and sign fitzy to use him as a prop then pay a fee for westy.although fitzy was a legend and westy can do it niether have had a season as a out and out 13 as good as washy in 2006 imho

If you are not part of the solution then you are more likely part of the problem...: |
|
| Still need a hooker in the squad for next season.
The reduction is subs will probably lead to the 2nd hooker on the bench becoming obsolete eventually but we need cover for potential injury to Houghton at least.
I would be looking at Championship or /1 and bring a youngster in now to work alongside Houghton.

100% correct. Despite playing 80 minutes week in week out in a very tough position his injury record is incredible. I hope Radford is not banking on this. Obviously I'm not wishing this to happen but it is possible that he could sustain an injury which could put him out for a while. Washbrook for all his merits is not good enough to be the number 1 hooker for a sustained period.

Platinum days HR! The most successful period in our history. Even crowned the official European Champions. Only regret for me was that we were never able to compete with the Aus Champions for the World title. Logistically difficult in the 50's but a match against either Souths or St George who dominated the game here at that time would have really put the icing on the cake.

His passport won't affect his Fed/Non-Fed status. He'll count as Non-Fed.

Building takes a while.
