Yes, one side are closed minded and not open to the facts of what is a very serious mental illness, if he had been caught drinking, gambling or generally being a t't then fair enough, but the guy is mentally unwell, he deserves our support, or for people to hold their tongues if they can't say anything constructive.

And I agree if that is the case, which is more than likely is, I just understand peoples cynicism (towards Gleeson, not the condition itself).

No ones doubting that Standee but in all honesty it sounds like after leaving Wigan he needed to take time away from the game and get himself right. Instead, FC waved a wad of cash in his face and he couldnt say no which in my mind doesnt show the player or the club in the best of light. If he leaves then it was all pointless. If he stays but doesnt play for ages then what was the point again? All seems a bit of a mess with of course FC in the middle of it yet again

| Quote: Standee "the people having a dig at Gleeson should ask themselves if their opinion would be the same if it was Yeaman, or Horne.
It amazes me that the "keep battling on" mentality remains, stress and depression are very, VERY, awful things to suffer.'"
Disappointing to see that in this day and age there are still people who are utterly clueless about stress and depression and feel the need to spout off about something that they clearly know nothing whatsoever about.

If my missus left me with the kids then I would deal with it too, yeah I would feel sorry for myself but you have carry on, to be honest when I have had issues in my personal life the best place to be is work, takes your mind of it.'"
Now stop embarrassing yourself by displaying your ignorance.

Apart from the odd poster, its not the condition existing that people disbelieve. It seems like there are two arguments going on.

| I think bickering about his condition on an internet forum is pretty poor. Leave the guy to get well and talk about something else.

Of course I would. This place would collapse without me

I chuckled at the ''perspective'' word he used in his opening post on this thread.

| I've read the comments on this thread with interest, my Mum works in Mental Health and she deals with people everyday who suffer from stress and a whole host of issues, which have a detrimental impact on the individuals and those around them.
It's fascinating to hear people's views, I totally agree with some posters that no matter what's going on in your personal life, physically dragging yourself out of bed and going to work can take your mind off things, briefly. But I don't believe we can apply the same rule to each human being.
I personally applaud our club for acting like an organisation that does not turn a blind eye to 21st century issues such as stress...yes it can be a drain on the resouces of employers (both public or private), especially when people use it to their advantage to gain time off.....but in todays world I don't think professional sports, including the macho world of Rugby League, can afford to turn a blind eye to this.
I personally hope that Martin Gleeson recovers well, and at some point is in the right frame of mind to return to the field...he could be a key player for the remainder of his contract...but putting aside his ability....he is an employee of Hull FC and I'm proud we are supporting him.

And people wondered why we didn't want one in the first place. The end result was completely predictable.

| Quote: steve_norton "Maybe I am too old fashioned but as someone who sees how easy it is for people to waste thousands of pounds of their employers money by taking time off for stress I think in a lot of instance its an easy way out. If you can't do your job because of stress then perhaps you shouldn't be doing it in the first place, too many people think the world owes them a living.
If Martin Gleeson has things going on in his personal life that need sorting out then by all means take time off work to sort them out but don't call it stress and set a timetable for that to happen and Martin to return to work.
Speaking generally, not about Martin Gleeson, we waste far too much money pandering to people who claim to be stressed and it seems an easy way out, especially since weak GP's seem only too willing to sign people off work for it. I know recently of a nurse who split up with her boyfriend and a doctor signed her off for a month for stress. We all payed for that and it was totally unnecessary. Modern life these days is pretty easy, we don't want for much and what we don't have the government generally gives us. A little perspective and more personal responsibility is needed.'"
Are you a Doctor or Mental Health Nurse ? Thought not.
1-5 people in this country will suffer with Mental Health problems in their life's, there are no rules as to who will suffer it can strike any-one. Many things can trigger a mental health problem and it can manifest itself in many ways often stress, anxiety and/or depression. GPs are not weak like you imply, as there are so many people suffering GPs are more than capable of diagnosing, believe me there are very clear signs...There is sadly still a lot of stigma and ignorance attached to mental illness which really does not help clients.
It matters very little what may or may not have triggered Martins illness, what matters is he is given full support in his recovery.
I wish him all the best in his recovery.
