do you really want fitz at 13?
i thought you'd be keen for a more attractive brand of rugby i.e. ball playing 13

If you are not part of the solution then you are more likely part of the problem...: |

At the start of the year Fitz was more then just a prop playing 13 IMO and some of the important tries he scored from kick throughs highlight that (away at Rovers away, Bulls at home and Catalan etc). If he is an out and out prop then we wouldnt see this part of his game.
The problem last year was that we flogged him by making him play 70 plus mins EVERY week and by the end of the season he was playing more like a prop.
Having Westerman in the back row means Fitz can get the rests needed with Manu coming into the back row as an impact player and Westerman dropping to 13.
Westerman is a big lad with a decent running game and good hands - he could cause some damage alongside Berro and Briscoe on the right hand side and I always felt Tickle was a more dangerous running threat on the left.
Just an option.

good points to be fair but i would still be disappointed to see westerman playing anywhere but 13.
I know what you're talking about regarding the fitzgibbon tries but i would hope westerman has just as much, if not more attacking talent playing from 13

I am sure Westerman will be Hulls number 13 or loose forward in the long term but I can just see us using both him and Fitz in the back row next year rather then flogging Fitz as an out and out prop.
Also allowing Manu to play off the bench I think is a positive.

We saw enough glimpses of what Lauaki can do last year but like Manu he didnt really get the ball in the right areas or at speed. Both Mnau and Lauaki can be pretty devastating runners on the fringes if given good ball and for that to happen we need to have a fit pair of half backs....
We simply cannot afford to go into the season with a hooker and loose forward as back up for the halves!!!

Good spot, i see Briscoe as a winger in 2011 and then a centre in 2012 onwards. I see him getting a few games in the centre in 2011 too.
Thats my project sorted then for 2011. 'Tom Briscoe to centre campain 2010-2012'

Lets say for example: (1)
min 0-20 Washy plays 9. He is 60% effective because he's not a hooker
20-40 Houghton plays 9 off the bench. He is 95% effective
40-60 Washy back on. 50% effective
60-80 Houghton back on. 85% effective
Total out of a possible 400%
Okaaay...
I'm on board as long as you are certain Washy is 60% effective and not 50 or 70%

But the way I see that is the best Washbrook offers is being 60% effective, whilst the least Houghton offers is 60%. And in my book a 60% Houghton is still a better player than a 60% Washbrook, so just abandon the Washbrook idea then.
In all seriousness though, I don't think we'll gain more from Houghton on bench than we'll lose by starting Washbrook. If we had another actual hooker, I'd agree wholeheartedly.

And thats the crux of the arguement really. I'd favour using a player in their best position in the 17 even with a guy starting who's not a recognised hooker. You wouldn't i think is the summary!

I think the main point is none of us have a clue how well Washy will go as a hooker and on that basis your better players should start the game. Plus Berro might even play hooker yet!
