Quote: PAUL M "The thing is Tansey was set to play in the halves anyway last week so if he is brought back then that is where he will play with Horne. Turner would be unlucky as he did well and showed some good touches but you have to pick your best side and I think that includes Tansey. He served his punishment so imo he should be brought back in especially as his last game was a motm performance for us.'"

If he comes back in the halves I can see the reasoning behind that. However, I would personally have him on the bench and give him the chance to earn a starting spot back. Whilst his punishment may have been a one match ban, the associated punishment that goes with that is that whilst your out of the team someone else takes your place and then its their spot to lose.

To a degree that's true but you should always pick your best team.

If Long was fit he would not have to wait to get back in regardless of how well the halves had done.

The halves did ok against Quins. Horne had the better game of the two and had they both played really well we would and should have scored more tries. We were not exactly oozing creativity for amount of field position we had. So imo I would bring Tansey back but would be happy knowing that Turner had done a good job in his first game at halfback for us. I would reward him by giving him a bench spot in place of Houghton and ask him to come on and play from dummy half or share the role with Tansey.

Tansey might at this moment do a better job, but shouldn't we be looking for Turner to be a more regular option to fill in. I think Tansey should be allowed to settle at FB, and if Long or Horne are injured, then better to bring Turner in, then keep changing Tansey from FB to the halves.

Yep, my thoughts exactly, leave Turner with Horne in order to build a bit of consistency, until Longy returns. Bit harsh on MOM Whiting, but if he is on the bench he could prove invaluable cos he has proven how versatile he is k020.gif

You can't drop the MOM from the last game. You just can't.

problem is we need to keep berro as fresh and as fit as possible. this means houghton needs to be on the bench most weeks, but against cas i'd let berro play 80min and swap houghton for turner.

i agree that turner needs some game time if he is going to play in the halves

tansey back to FB. i'm not sure if playing whiting on friday (simply based on his solid performances) is for the greater benefit of the next few games. we need turner or houghton on the bench, and the first choice backs are more effective than whiting. so i'm afraid....i would probably drop whiting eusa_think.gif

and you can drop whoever you like if it will prove beneficial over the season

Tansey has to come straight back into full back, Cas have 2 very clever halves, and will exploit a potential weak area with whiting at full back. He had a decent game, but got lucky a couple of times, where he didnt meet the ball on the full, and won the foot face to the ball before the attackers got to him. He also got clobberd a few time when he joined the line, where as Tansey has a little more pace and is more of an attacking option from full back.

Very unlucky on Whiting, but Tansey is our best option at full back by some distance, and this is a results business, so you have to pick the team most capable of getting a result. Unsure on what to do with whiting, Hall had a good game at centre and took his try very very well, Turner was good in the halves so may keep his spot. Houghton offers cover for berro at 9. So it may be one that whiting has to sit out.

I guess the only other way to look at it is to put Tansey on the bench (at odds with what I have already suggested), and let him cover 1, 6 and 9 as required, and leave the rest as is from last week.

He was named motm, but in my eyes there were a good 5 or 6 players better than him.

Depends how much weight the coaching team put on Sky's MOM choice.

My guess would be not much.

I'm a fan of Whiting, but I didn't think he was our MOM.

Two questions for me:

Why give Moa a two year contract and not use him?
Why keep Houghton on the bench, Agar states Berrigan can do 80 minutes, so let him do it, give the bench spot to someone else to stake a claim.

I do and I think he was voted MOM in the thread on here (not that that counts for anything either). Whether you think he was MOM or not, he played too well to be dropped and has done for the majority of the season and pre-season.

To drop Whiting now for a player who lost his place in the side for disciplinary reasons sends out entirely the wrong message - both to Whiting and Tansey.

Have to agree, it's Whiting's place to lose.
