I think he's very overhyped [inow[/i. But he's only 18. He's a similar sort of player to Tom Briscoe in that he's far from the finished article, but he looks like he'll be a very good player in 2 or 3 years time. By which point he'll be good for another 10-12 years at the top level.

Potential is all well and good but it does not always materialise, in 2/3 years time he could be just another average SH. Right now we need a proven SH and Myler is not what we need.

I'd say that depends very much on who his half back partner would be. If we're going to sign a world class six to play alongside him who can help him develop his game, then it's a very good idea to sign him.
Top overseas players rarely join clubs for 6, 8 or 10 years. If we can sign a promising half back now (as Saints did with Long, for example), and invest in his development for a couple of years, we could have the position sorted for the next decade. Surely that's worth a try.

I understand that point of view but my point is he may not turn in to the player people think he could be. Not all young players with potential end up fulfilling it and right now we need to concentrate on bringing in a proven SH. Myler would not come cheap, you would have to pay 'proven player' money for him which could en up being a mistake.

Ok lets say he will be in 2/3 years time. How do we sign him now? He won't leave Salford unless its for a big money deal, do we pay him more than he is worth on the basis he will be that good in 2/3 years. If we don't then another club will. If we do and win the race to sign him then what happens if he does not turn into this world class player people think he will be?

I see your point, but on that basis you'd never take a punt on anybody. Sometimes you have to take a risk on the promising youngsters in the game because there's always a chance you could end up with something really good at the end of it. Would it be better to spend top dollar on a 'proven' scrum half like Dykes who plays about 7 games a season, or slightly less on an unproven but very promising one? Also, I don't think he'd demand quite the sort of fee you're implying - although it would be fairly substantial.
On your last point, I'm not saying he'll be world class, but I don't think it's overstating the point to say he could easily turn out to be as good as Burrows or Long.

I agree you have to take a punt now and again when it comes to young players. I just feel that the SH position has been such a problem for us and is an area we desperately need to sort out that we need someone proven. They may only be here for 3 years but that is a long time in RL. I am not saying I would not like Myler but he won't come cheap and imo we need better at SH than what he offers at present. If we could sign a top 6 and Myer then maybe that would work and Horne could stay at fullback.

| Dont get me wrong, he has a bags of potential, but we are craving a top class scrum half, and we have been for a good number of seasons now.
with the spare cap money and quota spaces, now would be the ideal time to pull out all the stops to get one.

| Looks more of a stand off to me, would love to sign him as long as we sign a top SH for him to play with him.
I would be shocked if we where to sign him.

Maybe Gaz Carvell told him there's more chance of winning something there.

To be honest, if i was to meet the Wire Board and Tony Smith, then pop to see Kath and Agar, I'd know instantly that i was heading to Warrington!
