| Quote: UllFC "I'm worried about a merger, I don't think it solves issues but creates new ones.
On a positive side in theory it means a bigger club that could attract more sponsors, fans and have a stronger youth system.
But I suspect a lot of fans won't get on board with the idea, and two new 'successor' clubs would be formed at amateur level.
Given our issues at the MKM the team would play at Craven Park, which even putting aside my black & white tinted glasses isn't an easy place to travel to. Even if fans give it a go travelling from say Anlaby/Swanland/Willerby to East Hull will soon get unattractive on Thursday and Friday night through our 'cycle friendly' city centre! And good luck finding a bus without loads of changes.
It would also erase all the history and songs. No old clips of cup wins for the social media teams to post, no Old Faithful or Red Red Robin. Even 'come on you 'Ull' is seen as our song and wouldn't be sung.'"
I wouldn't worry it will never happen, most of the old die hard fans like myself from both clubs would more than likely call it a day and live with our past memories. The question is are there as many new younger fans that would get on board with a merged club to replace the old goats like me? I personally think not most youngsters these days want to be footballers & theres a lot that wouldn't get off there x box to attend so a merger just wont work.

I cannot see the club chairmen also giving up power and influence either.
Everybody's clinging onto their slice of the cake, to the detriment of the game.
Super leagues got a serious old boys club going on, favours for favours etc
Hopefully I'm wrong but we l see, you d like to think they've all had enough out the sport, and it can be handed over and totally revamped.

Hopefully good news.'"

He has sold the club to Roman Abramovitch. Roman was recently spotted in B&Q buying furniture for his luxury Villa on Coltman Street.

If youngster want to be footballers and play on Xboxes what difference will mergers make in the long term?

What I mean is if a lot of the older supporters like myself walked away from a merged club for that reason who will replace that number

To be honest it’s an interesting point I come from a family where generations have gone, my late granddad started going with his dad, my dad went my grandad and occasionally my nana, the. I started going with my dad & my grandad occasionally also with my mum and nana. Then as we moved to the KC my mum and nana became passholders too until both grandparents passed away.
I know I won’t be the only one that became a fan through family and would hazard a guess that the majority of not just Hull fans but RL fans generally are fans because of family.
So losing older generations to the game is a concern as it’s a core of support that is and has been the life blood of the sport. I would probably argue that the sport as a whole and clubs have relied too much on the generational fan base without looking or working hard enough for ways to bring in new fans from the non RL families instead just being complacent and taking it for granted.
With society and life having many more choices and options for people than ever before lifestyles and the way people live are much different. The competition for peoples spare time is much greater so the sport really has to work much harder to attract a newer element to its fan base.

| AP seems bereft of ideas, as do the rest of the Super League chairmen.
The game has certainly lost a lot of impetus.
Some rule changes unecessary and fed up of the play acting.

People have been saying the game's been dying since 1895. See Tony Collins' recent podcast.
The difference here is that social media has given supposed fans of the sport a platform on which to keep saying it over and over so that it's almost in danger of becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy.

| I think AP would have been wise to keep his own counsel at least until after the derby. I don't think I've anticipated a big game less for a long time.

There in lies the problem as the ones currently running the game seem to think it’s more to do with changing the product to attract people rather than having people in control that know what marketing actually is, know how to do it and do it successfully.
All they have to do is get off their backsides and actually put a proper shift in and do their jobs instead of just hoping the core fans will just keep turning up and doing their job of bringing new fans to the game for them. Too many involved particularly within the RFL are stealing a salary and have no real experience of qualifications to do what is required.
Until that is addressed the game with continues to flounder and lose ground and credibility.
