| Quote: roopy "Fox sport are reporting that you are going to sign Carlos Tuimavave for next year.
Carlos is a 5/8 who was a standout in the Warriors under 20s a few years ago. He only got a handful of firstgrade games at the Warriors and played fullback and centre as well as 5/8.
This year he has been playing 5/8 in the Newcastle Knights reserve grade and has had 4 or 5 games in firstgrade as a 5/8 replacement for Jarrod Mullen.
He is a very good athlete - tall, big for a half, fast, good step. He has been working all this year under Knights halves guru Allan Bell and his kicking and passing games have improved a lot.
He is 6'1" and 90kg.
He had a very good game at 5/8 for Samoa in their big win over Tonga a few months ago, and I expect he will be a regular for Samoa in the future.'"
Has he played any at fullback for you?
remmember him coming through and playing a few at 1 for warriors.
Rumour is shaul n rankin off so this signing would make sense as a pivot style fullback signing whilst providing cover at half whilst we still have 2 halves contracted for next yr

No.
He played one game at centre in reserve grade and scored two tries with quality footwork - but apart from that he has played 5/8 in both grades, which is what he signed for. At the warriors he was unhappy that he wasn't getting a chance at 5/8.

Depending on how the operation on Ellis Achilles goes, he could be back playing 6 months from now. Although I appreciate its a different sport, Christian Benteke of Aston Villa snapped his Achilles in the first week in April of last year (I remember this as I did the same thing in the same week). He was back in first team action at the beginning of October of last year. So that period of 6 months included him regaining his fitness.
Fingers crossed, Ellis' time line will be around about the same.

Could be anything between four to six months

| Are we committed contract wise to Ellis next season?
Whichever way you look at it it's a gamble, he gets fixed and is ready to train pre season in which case what are the chances of him breaking down again. 6 months might be okay for one person (Benteke was 23) but how long it takes for someone with a lot of miles under their belt, much much heavier both in mass and muscle to get back to maximal effort is completely different.
The best information/comparison is from the NFL ajnd their findings are that 2/3 of athletes never regain their former levels, whilst that doesn't indicate anything with regard to Eliis's individual circumtsances I think there is still a big risk for next season that he might not make it back or just will be not able to be as effective.
Gutted as one more massive season from him (as well as the run in this) could have helped us poke our noses closer to the top end of the table.

| I wouldn't say Pryce has been outstanding, he's been exactly what anyone with a bit of sense thought he would be. Not the player he was (worth noting that he started playing SL at 16 the same age and at the same time as Richard Horne, so imagine what his body has been through) but has adapted his game and has given us experience and leadership that was needed, and on ocassions has put in some real quality performances aswell with touches of class. That said I think Rankin at 6 overall wouldn't be too much of a loss, if anything would maybe add a bit of zip, have an outstanding fullback in Shaul anyways so no loss in switching Rankin, just hope the coach is open to that. Abdull to be used from the bench for me, adds real nice touches but not sure if 6 is even his natural position. Ellis is a different kettle of fish, absolute machine in defence especially, in a big game will be missed whoever we go with.
Long term I quite like the idea of Carlos Tuimavave, especially if Rankin leaves. In an ideal world we shouldn't need him, but I don't think Radford has the patience or capacity to nurture any talented young players through the ranks, let alone halfbacks who by nature are going to be in and out and inconsistent so any player from the academy is a no go really. Id prefer a player with a lot of natural ability and something to prove, rather then a player who's been steady but not rocked the boat. Tuimavave seems a carbon copy of Rankin really when he was signed.

Like you say some people will recover quicker then others. You've got Benteke who recovered in 6 months at 23 & in a different sport but on the flip side you've got Stuart Reardon who was 27 when he ruptured his & was still recovering 18 months later.

| In an ideal world we'd de-register Ellis, build a squad to the full cap excluding him and then reregister him as a marquee player if he was fit to play by February. Problems being whether he qualifies as marquee but more importantly whether we have that sort of cash available (recent cost saving indicate not).

| And only tomorrow to bring someone in which the club dont seemingly want to do but that because Pearson is both clueless and skint. On tonights performance its gonna be a long next eight weeks.
Do you remember those heady times of Kath and co when we was average and the club went and brought this little known hooker in from Oz by the name of Treister. Changed the performances overnight. Sadly it doesnt seem like anything will ever happen again with our club whilst we have our current owner

Ahh the old RLFans problem of selective memory. We were W5 D1 L2 when Treister came in. We didn't improve overnight. We had a good win over Saints and hammered Halifax away (who only won once all season) ater that it was pretty standard fare and we finished 7th and missed the play offs.
