Brilliant statement to an arguement which you can't argue against! But still you keep chipping in! This discussion is over, I have made my points and you have failed to do so.

It seems little Tommy has lost his temper
The whole conversation is there for all to see, if you think you've won the debate then good for you.
Perhaps you can go and build another igloo now?

Whiting had a very good 2010 season playing out of position (until he got injured). At the time, just about everyone on here agreed that that was the case.

I think everyone would agree whiting is a good player, but he hasn't kicked on due to his cursed luck with serious injuries. trouble is sometimes every now and then you get a player like that who doesn't get small strains and pulls but major breaks, richard seems like that and sadly I can't see him ever move to the next level due to this, maybe he'll prove me wrong

I don't think he needs to reach a 'next level'. He performs consistently well when he's fit, and will do so in almost any position on the park. That said, it would be nice to see him last a full season without a broken bone (or two).
I think Whiting comes in for quite a hard time on here. It doesn't seem to matter how good a season he has, when the off season rolls around people (not you, necessarily) are quick to start labelling him 'average', or 'just a back up'. His biggest problem is his versatility - he never seems to get a run in one position because he's always fighting fires.

Whiting doesn't have a "next level" he had a very solid season and played well, he is an asset as a squad player, but he isn't ever going to make a single position his own, he's taken to the utility tag now I am afraid.

I too fear his utility role may actually be his downfall in targetting a specific position. We'll see if he does prove to become a centre this season, as Agar has suggested he sees him as.

He's already shown that he can play centre very well, particularly in a defensive capacity. He's a 'very good' centre, but he'll never be a 'great' one as he's lacking one vital ingredient.

i think its more to do with slipping down the pecking order due to being out for such long periods really its difficult to nail down one position for that reason for me, as anyone who knows me knows I'm not a hull fan but I do feel genuinely sorry for rich whiting as he could have been a really top class back row forward but I suspect he never will be much more than a utility fighting fires as you put it because of his appalling luck with serious injuries

Whiting is one of a few players (a fair few) over the years that have suffered from coaches that simply place a body in a space, not necessarily the right space.
He'd have made a great ball handling 2nd row if he could have put some weight ON , he'd make a cracking loose forward if he was just a little quicker, he'd be a class centre if he was a fair bit quicker.
One thing I would never question is Whiting's professionalism or effort, sometimes effort cannot bridge the gap in ability.
{edited} I put weight off, for some reason best known to my fingers!

Well if Berro does go, which becomes increasingley more likely as the days go on, I for one would be pleased for Whiting to get the '3' shirt and give him a full season at one position. He must easily make the team's most inceptions on our defensive line, shame about that one vital ingredient to take him to the line!

He'd still make a cracking loose forward, I'm sure of it. Sadly, I don't think I'll ever see my theory put to the test now.

He doesn't have a gap in ability, he has a gap in pace. If he was three or four yards faster he'd be a cert for the GB centre shirt.

I see pace as an ability, other than that, we're in agreement.
But then I think Horne would also make a much better loose forward than he does a half back.

I agree, would love to have seen him become a 2nd rower a couple of years ago
