'Thus I am tormented by my curiosity and humbled by my ignorance.' from History of an Old Bramin, The New York Mirror (A Weekly Journal Devoted to Literature and the Fine Arts), February 16th 1833.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_33809.png

Quote: Action Man "To be fair to him, of the list of 8 players that was produced - 4 are no longer with the club, and only 2 are guarenteed a place in a fully fit starting 17. In the context of the overall debate, I think he has a point.'"

When you look at the 2006 Hull GF team with 9 homegrown players, your production line looked like one to really envy. 4 of those have moved on, as have Lee and Hall without so far really fulfilling their potential. Radford and Horne are showing signs of age and wear and tear, while Yeaman, Whiting and Washbrook seem to have stood still. Houghton and T.Briscoe show Hull can still produce top class players, but not currently at a rate to match those departing or fading. Whether they are the tail end of the last golden generation or herald the arrival of a new one, only time will tell...

Quote: garry brindley "In your efforts to protect the club from my criticism you attempted to turn a discussion into how effective the academy was into how many academy players had made first team appearances, disregarding the fact that the vast majority of those that have made first team appearances haven't been considered good enough in the long run.'"

I actaully quoted your statement which said that our academy didn't bring in first team regulars. I found facts which contradicted that and now you're having trouble to actually find anything against those facts. Can't you just leave the facts do the talking, or will you still keep trying to argue against them?

Jessie Joe looks like an interesting type of player but if Wakey lost patience due to red tape I'm guessing if anyone else shows an interest in him over here he would have to re-apply all over again.

I still find it strange that the club seem to think 2010's was 'mass recruitment'. Even including Tansey and Lauaki's late 2009 arrivals, we only brought in 6 players from outside the club. If we are still hoping for another before the season starts that's 3, so 6 wasn't that many more.

I think it was in terms of player turn around, not just recruitment, and in key areas throughout the team.

You engaged in wordplay in order to try and detract from the overall point I was making. If you think that's 'letting the facts do the talking' then I'm glad you're not my MP icon_smile.gif

Still don't agree with it though. Of the 6, one is a fringe player, 3 are forwards, only 2 are in key positions in the possible disruptive sense. We seem to be being sold 2010 as a huge recruitment drive that negates the need for much more this year, when it really wasn't.

Quote: garry brindley "I think you are a bit to be fair! The definition of an academy success should be that he cements a place in the first team to the extent that we don't need to look outside the club to fill that position. As you rightly say you can't expect a 'golden generation' of 4 or 5 at once very often but the fact is our academy has produced one out and out success in 4 or 5 years.. nobody can convince me that that's good enough.'"

I think where people are disagreeing is that you seem to be placing the responsibility of first team performances with the academy coaches. IMO we have had many players who have shown promise in their early SL appearances but not improved enough to become regulars. That's down to the first team coaching, you can't fairly blame the academy coaching staff for youngsters not kicking on after they have handed them over.

Agree with this, weren't our youngsters good enough to reach 3 grand finals at their respective level, winning 2 of them. That to me that suggests they were good enough against their peers. Yet as you say they haven't kicked on at senior level, the fault lies with the senior coaching staff IMO

I take your point but I said at the start of this discussion that there's a difference between excelling at academy level and being ready for the step-up to SL and I think the academy should at least be called into question for that.

Besides, if I'm blamed Agar for these players not developing the very same posters would be queing up to disagree with me.
