As someone said on a previous thread, the game is becoming a war of attrition. Flair and inventiveness are nowhere to be seen .

A fair few modern pro sports have a lot of teams that spend as much time worrying what the opposition are doing then themselves.

| Quote: Mrs Barista "So...
If rumours are true, Radford will become the new head coach, supported by Lasty as assistant and Cooke in some capacity. We've signed Paea, Feka and Thompson and upgraded several young players' contracts, but lost size, experience and quality in outgoing players. There could be some disruption in the camp with Miller, DJ and McDonnell in particular having been close to Gentle. Fans understandably feel that this is the latest in many seasons ending in disappointment and bracing themselves for the onslaught of manic season pass PR.
I think we need some honest communications from AP about rationale for recruitment of both new coach and players, realistic targets for 2014, how near the cap we'll be, and to share more information about the academy - apparently more are going full time, how we're already seeing the benefits. I don't really mean a website article either, either a fans forum or full on interview.
It's in all our interests to see FC progress. But AP has to take us with him, or the chances of this happening are diminished. Leadership isn't all about fancy talk and ambition, it's about robust communication and humility where relevant. Hope we get some meaningful insight from him in the coming days.'"
That's why I wanted the club to instigate/organise a fans communication (forum or otherwise). It's important that the club do this rather than react to a fans' request though. Get as many there as possible (even in the stadium?) and broadcast it free live on FC TV with a stream that can cope. And I'd draw a line under problems with RH and attempt a new and inclusive arrangement with them hard as it might be to stomach.

The point is that a fair bit of flair has been removed so everyone can fit in a nice box with a label.
As an example Paul Cooke was a game controlling 6 and Richard Horne was a running 7. You could argue that their numbers where the wrong way around but it worked for FC.
Pro sport has at least to a certain degree been sterilized and turned into a box ticking exercise.

As loathed as I am to agree (out of principle you being a KR fan and all) I have to, we now talk about "winning the collision" or "the wrestle", that's just garbage, I don't watch RL to see good defense, I want to be entertained, and at £24 a game, FC are not proving value for money.

Because it's works.
The basic of the game can't be moved to faraway from. These players with great flair from years ago didn't play against such fit and well drilled defences.

That's what all the top teams do well.

I agree. Most teams have the same set moves and the object of RL now seems to be to get to the last tackle and kick to the corner.
I don't think Super League is that exciting any more to be honest, and rigid structures and roles are killing the game.

That's your opinion. I personally have been thoroughly entertained by the defences on show in the NRL play off series, and only wish we could reach that standard over here.

| I'm with EHFC on this.
Great defence is great to watch. Roosters Manly last week was one of the games of the season.

Anyone remember Boycot smacking the streaker twice on the backside with his bat? A 6 month ban and an assault charge right there in the modern game of that I have no doubt (My thoughts would be it's his own damn fault for running naked around an area he had no right to be in). He showed a bit of character and that's not wanted in modern sport as he may become unavailable for his team (In a box with a label).
Where would Gazza have fitted in modern Football? Would he be classed as too out of control for top level football.
Would Nobby Styles have been grabbed hold of and told to stop playing his game the way he did (Kicking everyone into the stands) because he was always being banned?
Getting back to RL I'm going to use Willie Mason as another example (I know, But still).
In that year we were under Morgan playing a very structured system (Too structured IMHO) now in his first game Willie was having the time of his life and was offloading for fun and it was great to watch. Next game in not one offload.
It was obvious to me that JM had got hold of Willie and asked him to knock the offloads on the head as he needed him to fit in a box with a label.
As for my point about worrying more about them then us here are 2 examples.
Alex Ferguson regularly won premier league titles at canter at MU but then in Europe changed they way the played in the latter stages because he was worried about the opposition to the detriment of themselves mostly .
The year Jenson Button won the world title in F1 he did it on the back of a brilliant idea from Ross Brawn and his team. It was passed by the FIA but the other teams didnt like it, Now instead of thinking 'Right lets take a look and see if we can think up a great idea of our own' they spent around 1/3 of that season moaning to the FIA about it. By the time they decided to do their own thing it was too late and Brawn and Button were crowned team and world champions.
