| Agree with Windass, can't see where he would fit in, surprised Saints would let him go with Knowles leaving too, unless they think Wingfield is good enough. Surely we won't be using another quota spot on a middle. Hopefully Watts or Eseh (or both) will do really well and we can sign them for next year. I think our priorities to sign and use the last quota spot has to be a backrower (2) and a stand off. Maybe a centre too, but that might depend on Litten goes when he comes back and the development of Westerman. Id say we need One prop Two backrowers (Batchelor would be a great signing) One stand off Maybe a (someone like Cross would could replace Briscoe for wing/centre would be ideal) Quality not quantity is needed for next year

| Dave K.:6 has to be our priority next year along with backrow, I'd definitely be using our quota spot on a 6 unless we can get Lam or Pryce. If we sign a 6 where does that leave us with cust, burough and balmforth? Ideally I'd move cust in but can't see that happening

| We should be after Will Pryce as the 6. Newcastle are after signing Dylan Brown on a crazy 10 year deal to play 6. Ponga is the full back. Then they've got depth options in Fletcher Sharpe and Jack Cogger.

| Difficult one is Cust, think he will be ok for us this year and do a job, but not sure he is good enough if we went to progress.

| mwindass:HU8HFC:James Bell is also another Saints player we’re interested in I like him but he'd take up our last quota spot. Not sure it'd be wise to sign him when we have Asiata as our 13 2026 would be his 6th season in super league, would that bring him off the quota? Only possible logic I could see behind the interest (as well as him being a good player of course).

| I might be wrong on this, but think it has to be 5 seasons in the same league, so it would only be 4 as 2021/22 were in the championship

Someone whose chairman doesnt sit on the RFL board might well be in a better position to challenge that though as it seems really discriminatory. I must confess I assumed he was off to Leigh as they have been chasing him for almost the entire time hes been at Saints. From our perspective were looking to replace Knowles in the market (linked with Brandon Smith and Morgan Smithies god help us) and Wingfield will step into Bells bench role, with Leon Cowen backfilling depth from the academy. Frees up a non-fed spot for us (which is needed to replace Knowles most likely) and a chunk of cap.

Surely it should be about the length of time served playing in British game not just SL, as the RFL are the national governing body (well supposedly).

| Yes, but that would still only be 5 years, think also it also has to be 6 years continuous in SL to count. So someone like Sezer it wouldn't count as he had a year back in the NRL. For the Saints fan, what are your thoughts on Batchelor, for me a good signing and improvement on what we have, still not a bad age.

For the Saints fan, what are your thoughts on Batchelor, for me a good signing and improvement on what we have, still not a bad age. From a purely selfish perspective, I would be very pleased if Saints let Batchelor go. But thats more about us having a bit of a warchest this season with a lot of deadwood (Hurrell, Ritson, Mbye, Bell) moving on meaning we should be targeting some pretty high profile replacements. At one point it looked like Batchelor was going to be the premier backrower in the competition (the magic game against Wigan was a definite high point) so theres no doubt hes talented, but it feels like hes been one of those players who ever since we won in Aus decided that was the career highlight and it was job done - couple that with a frustrating few years with niggly injuries and its been frustrating all round. I actually think him moving to Hull and getting some rivalry going with his brother would do him the world of good breaking out of that malaise but thats something we cant offer him. If you can get him back to his best he will do an incredible job for you, and there arent many fed trained backrowers like him - able to run a line and bust a tackle. If he stays as he is, he will still be alright, but you will just be wracked with what could have been.
