I'm inclined to agree with you. The club knew the fans wouldn't like it if he wasn't offered a deal so he has been offered one in the hope he will turn it down, thereby deflecting blame from the board.

gambling on an aging Long and a badly out of form Horne is a big gamble to take. I personally think we could use Horne as the new utility (in the absence of his brother and Byrne) player anyway. With the amount of injuries we always get he'd get a game at fullback/centre/standoff nearly every week anyway.
