Some of the older ones need to go too, Houghton and Taylor spring to mind.'"
If we are in as much trouble as some Rovers fans want to believe, then I'm sure it will happen, fully expect Connor and Satae to be sold.
Wonder if this will happen?'"
Not sure that will happen to be honest.
Its all well and good owning a ground but ATEOTD there's a big level of funding needed for the upkeep of a stadium. I would assume its mortgaged as opposed to being bought our right so these payments will still have to be covered along with up keep and running costs.
Its not an issue we are alone in either as Gary Hethrington stated himself that the Rhinos face losses much the same if not a little more as all SL clubs will due to the nature/cause of the losses. None of them are immune so every club should indeed be worried about the situation. It may only be Hetherington and Pearson so far that have both come out and said as much but the reality is that every club is in for a rough time financially. So all the Rovers fans wetting their knickers over it need to take a reality check as I think most sensible ones will realise that costs still have to be covered whether a ground is owned or not.
I'm sure the situation re the SMC and Stadium will be resolved and things will improve now the Allams are no longer involved

I wasn't serious, we won't sell anyone top players.
2 years of no crowds has caused this, we will start to turn this around, but need a better SMC and better performances on the field, we we so far are starting to do.

| One thing the SMC, need to learn from Rovers is using the stadium for events, when was the last time it held a big event.
It offers a good size stadium with excellent transport links.
If they held a few events, they could make money and that could reduce the costs to both clubs.

Perform on the field and we will be fine.
A bad season and sone major maintenance, Rovers could be in trouble. I don't think any SL team are fully secure.
Wasn't long NH was desperate to leave.'"
To be honest Dave I doubt any SL team are that financially secure too, that's why they all have chairmen that are fans, because they'll keep covering the debts because of there love for there clubs.
Reduced Sky money and falling crowds could see a few other teams in bother I reckon.

Totally agree, unlike football, rugby clubs need crowds, we haven't had hardly any for the last two years.
Crowds seem pretty positive at the moment, channel 4 games wi help.
We need to start to perform consistently, if we go we will be ok.

They will still have payments to make to cover the financial cost of buying the ground, costs for upkeep/maintenance, increase in energy costs and owning a ground before didn't stop them or others going bust before.'"
That might explain why the purchase of the stadium has been kept pretty low key.
Would have expected some big announcement but if I hadn’t noticed it on the Hull Live website (when it wasn’t even the big headline) I don’t think I would know about it?

This is what I struggle to understand.
If they didn’t own the stadium until now how have they been able to use it for events such as boxing and concerts?
Also how was they able to kick out the speedway all those years ago?
Examples of more favours HCC have done them?

I'm pretty sure we owned the leash hold which meant although we didn't own the ground at the time we still kept the profits from the boxing and concerts, and presumably why we could kick the speedway out too.

You don’t understand that as we previously leased the ground we could hold events?

Indeed.
Thread cleaned up of all the tit for tat posts. Please stick to the subject and refrain from the childish "we're better than you" rubbish.

| I would like to think that the governors and custodians of the sport as a whole are fully aware of the impact financially that all clubs and the sport is facing post lockdown etc.
Indications suggest that is indeed the case with the discussions in terms of realigning the RFL and SL and also the deal with Channel 4 to show a small selection of SL games on free to air TV.
Any mocking of any clubs position be it SL, Championship or grass roots is the lowest. Personally whilst things do not look great I do believe the club will recover and the fans will come back if the product on the field continues to improve. No club can ignore the losses caused by the pandemic which are a never before seen situation and no club can have foreseen or budgeted for such losses.

That is a very valid point. Rovers have in the past 3 or 4 seasons utilised their ground and facilities to bring in extra revenue streams. All rugby and football grounds for that matter cant just sit back and expect revenue on match days to cover the running costs of their clubs. All grounds have to be used to their maximum revenue generating potential, whether that be for business conferences , boxing matches or pop concerts, they all bring in much needed extra cash. I remember many years ago at St George in Australia. They made a fortune from having rows of slot machines incorporated into their leisure facilities. I'm not suggesting that every club goes down the road of having casinos built at their grounds but it is simply an insight into how some clubs maximise their revenues streams. Hull Fc and their new owners could probably come to an agreement where they could stage events at the KC on the proviso that all running costs and profits are shared equally.

This is true, but the economics need to be right and there are risks attached. Rovers events earnings for example are less than £190k so far in total after 4 years, equivalent to less than a grand a week. Very welcome, but not only about 3% of the salary cap, so not a game changer as such. Need to get the right cost benefit ratio that's for sure.
