S'right. Don't hold with all this name change jiggermepokery. Unless you get divorced and remarried like Berrigan's Bitch did. Twice. (And may do again! Eh, Bet?) She's the exception that proves the rule.
Roverswall was the most embarrassing example. Tried to become Darth Vader but (alarmingly) that one was taken so he settled for Anakin Skywalker. S. WHY?
Anyway, I bet EHFCF changed his to distance himself from some of his wilder demonstrations of pigheaded obtuseness, nowt to do with newbie easthull fc fan. But, as we see once more, Easthulliphants cannot change their spots, and the truth will out.

Don't worry bud, I posted a while back that I was changing it so we didn't get mixed up/misquoted. Left the Avi and other things the same though, just in case some of the more 'special' posters couldn't work it out.

Suppose that's an improvement on those who knew he wasn't coming back from Oz at all.

| well after the 2 superleague friendlies, i would start with rankin and horne. rankin is excellent and looks nailed on for the no.6 position, whilst horne offers you experience at no.7, and is still a good player despite what you read on this forum. he also offers you superior defence to miller, which is important in the modern game as clubs will always target a weak defender. its early days but they should compliment each other well. then we've got miller knocking on the door keeping those 2 on their toes. millers time will come but i don't think at this point he's capable of leading us round the pitch week in week out.
imo we don't need heremaia in the halves unless we have an injury crisis. he should be able to concentrate on sharing the hooking role

So we start with Horne & Rankin, then when Horne inevitably misses half the season we expect Miller & Rankin to form a partnership to see us through? We need a partnership that can see out 25+ games. Of course there could be an injury to Miller or Rankin too, but even the coach only expects 15 games out of Horne. It's just not good enough.

Completely agree with most of that. Rankin and Horne should start on today's showing. Certainly lived up to his forum promises, Rankin - I'm impressed with, er, first impressions. All good! But Horne's not a scrum-half, he can't direct play, organize and lead games. He hates it and we lose more often then not. Horney is an out and out off-half, relishes it and thrives there. Player of the season there last year until injury.
Miller's our only true scrum half. I'm all for giving him every chance. Young, inexperienced et al, but Rankin's taken the bull by the horns in his first friendly, after pronouncing to all and sundry - bullishly - that he was going to do just that. Frankly, Miller hasn't put his money where his mouth is at all yet to mirror that attitude. But Rankin's another off-half, albeit that he showed good decision-making and kicking today. Can he step effortlessly up to seven? Or would he be another hexagon forced, Horne-like, into an heptagonal hole?
Do we go with Miller the only SH we have, although green? Or Rankin, an off-half who has demonstrated he can grasp the nettle? Is the gamble worth it in this case?
Dunno. What I do know is that we are entering yet another season with no proven scrum half.

Horne has only missed more than half a season once, in 2008. He's played 105 SL games since 2009.
That said we have a specialist number seven now and I'd like to see Rankin and Miller as a settled half back pairing.

Rich Horne is a modern day legend of the club. To come back from his neck injury and battle with his diabetes is nothing short of impressive, but he's not capable of giving us what we need any more. Consistency is massive in this league, and our best chance to get this is Miller & Rankin, IMO. Horne as a back up is the perfect compliment to them, he's the ultimate professional.

| Look, I think Miller has a lot to learn, but I've seen enough to make me think the potential is there. He has attitude as far as I can see, witnessed not least against Barrel Burns last year. I think he wants to work for Hull.
But, Christ, against Wigan Wire and Leeds? Now?
I'm tending towards Rankin 7 and Horne 6, for the moment. Rankin may solidify his position as SH as a result. Or he might not. But these are my thoughts entering the season.
