despite losing sneyd, clark, huby chase huaraki etc he's had to rebuild the Castleford squad, most thought theyd struggle with the calibre of players leaving, yet they're still a top 4 side.
they play entertaining rugby, they win close games, compete in nearly all games, but to look at their squad you wouldn't think theyd be any good (no offense to Castleford players)
no he hasn't won anything, and yes he had a torrid time at leeds. but he's gone down, learnt his trade and now look at what he's doing with Castleford. I wont be long before one of the top teams come calling for him, so for me, we need to get in and get him now...could use the money we will be saving with this academy merger cr@p to get him.
maybe then, AP will see his money time and effort has been put to good use'"
I agree with the above and would also take Brian Smith over Radford all day long.
Long term though I'd like Paul Rowley or even James Lowes who after struggling at SL level initially seems to have gone away and learnt his trade unlike some.

| Pearson can't understand why after four years of investment he is seeing no return. His wage bill has risen yet we are going backwards...
It dosnt take a NASA scientist to work it out. This week should of opened his eyes to what a decent coach can do with a hopeless team, never mind one that has the quality we have.
Wake up Adam please

If AP under stood the sport he is in, which he should by now after 4 years, he would have seen what a decent coach can do by looking to Castleford. I personallly would love Powell, but he is an intelligent man so I really don't think he would come. Unless of course he was ambitious enough to realise that he could be a real hero to the faithful if he could turn things around.
But given the situation with the acdemy and a coaching set up that imho needs root and branch clearance with few exceptions. A scouting system that appears to be failing. I only say failing as we have raised the white flag in relation to talent in the past week. Does he really want that much work?
I'd suspect that the Wire job will be available soon if he sits pretty along with a role with England. Or he may want to try his hand in the NRL. I don't see a head coach role but one where he can go and add to his experience and knowledge. The world is Powell's oyster and I don't see us as an attraction currently.

| It's a fair point, why would Powell leave Cas, the only think would be potential, there is certainly potential to make Hull a team that challenges each season, I don't think it is possible with Cas (Which isn't there fault, but due to the size of the town they are from).
If I was Powell I'd stay at Cas, as he has a safe job there for the next few years, I would doubt we would be able to afford to buy him out of his contract now, as it's cleat Pearson is tightening his purse strings (And I can't really blame him)
I'd go for Tony Smith, proven success (although not really this year, as they are going through a transition) and I reckon tha Warrington might release him.

| Can't understand why Pearson is so blinkered over Radford. As Wilf states in his diary we could end up right in the **** if we end up in the Championship. I know it sounds pessimistic but we have such an attitude about how it's almost our right to be a winning team that we could end up struggling in the mid 8s.

I can't help but feel FC's attitude and approach to games seems to be along the lines of trying to match their opponents rather than impose themselves on them. It's one thing us trying to raise our game against the likes of Saints and Wigan but then we play someone further down the table and just do the same thing. I fear that if we do end up in the middle 8s that we will continue in this way and could find ourselves struggling. As Wilf pointed out in the Diary someone saidIt must be common knowledge that if you stick in there for a while against Hull you’ll likely come out as winners '"
It's true and we only have ourselves to blame.

| Either of the Smith brothers for me but think Brian would jump at the chance to return
We need experience not a guy who is treading water and taking the club backwards since he was appointed

So he's a better coach than the one Crooks had in Australia presumably?

Different kettle of fish. NRL often shows the level of some players (and most of SL would struggle in NRL), but I feel like out of anyone in SL, Powell will be able to get the best out of him. Particularly as he has so many ties to the club (his dad was Cas captain, hometown, etc) - it'll be a refreshing change for him.
