| Theres been issues bubbling for 4 weeks now and you have to trust the clubs new managements judgement here you have to have a settled group and group dynamics are as important as levels of ability at that age. I wouldn’t bother listening to his dad he’s bound to be loyal but on past experience he doesn’t appear to like the club much either

As out of towners there's no loyalty to the club from their side. From what I remember there was a bit of beef before Nick signed his last contract so who knows what's gone on. His dad will want the best for his son, and rightly so, but it may be that this is the best outcome for everyone, especially as Cas look awful.

As you say Pete as a club we need all individuals that are at the club that genuinely want to be a part of it, particularly in the playing side of things.
Thankfully we now have owners and a Coach that are on the same page and not afraid to make the changes needed even if that means we suffer a little pain in the short term.
I think Myler alluded to that in a couple of his interviews early doors when he mentioned we may lose some popular or promising players on the journey to rebuild the club.
For me after being fortunate enough to have a chat with Cartwright he speaks with brutal honesty and certainly seems to be fully focused on the job in the here & now and also the future to come. He certainly is strikes me as a guy that will back you all the way if you commit and likewise if you take the mick you’ll face consequences in a firm and fair way not vindictive.
As much as I can understand Staveley Snr will want what he perceives as the best for his lad I can’t help but think that they way he acts does hamper his sons progress.

| [quote="Chris71":2j2tmnhx]Unless the club under the new Coaching set up havent seen Staveley as part of the plans moving forward then we have to trust their judgement. If however he’s pushed for the move to Cas then I can’t help but think he’s been poorly advised. Looking at Cas so far they look a very poor side and it would seem he’d be leaving a Hull side that has made significant changes within the club to move forward to go to a club that seems so far to be in a similar position we were in last couple of seasons.
If the move his doing I’d be surprised he’s chosen a move to Cas over giving it a go under the new ownership and coaching set up.[/quote:2j2tmnhx]
Agree, but I guess he has signed for a proper club for next year and has negotiated a release/ been shown the door meantime.
Rovers leeds or wire??

Cant see that the new coach has had any time to make a playing judgement on him so it looks more likely that he has asked to go.

His dad said on Twitter that Staveley wasn't looking for a move. But that might not be true, of course.

Might not be anything to do with playing ability or might not have been the clubs decision, who knows.

Since I heard about it three weeks ago my mind went straight to his friendship with Pete Riding and the worries we had about Balmforth going East with him, so Rovers favourite for me.

| I’ve lived through losing Crooksy, Vaikona, etc.
I’ll cope with losing Staveley.
Trust in the process!

Heaven forbid they promote from within, but best of luck to him whatever the reasons for his move are.
At the end of the today I’d rather we have a team of players that are 100% committed, if he wasn’t fully committed due to Pete Riding not been at the club then no issue with the club letting him go elsewhere.

The culture has been wrong in the club for decades now. If we lose a few in putting that right, that’s fine.
Carty & Myler give us an opportunity to finally put it right, backed by the owners.

| Perhaps Cartwright has also seen a lot of potential in Kirby or somebody like Lennon Clark aswell during pre season and thinks they will be able to fill a gap left by Staveley

| Disappointing IF Staveley is leaving.... My guess is he's already signed for another club, and that club has no cap space this season (probably Hull kr)
maybe we wanted to see, how his fitness is progressing, before offering a contract extension , or another club were willing to take a gamble on his fitness.
At the end of the day, im confident on the club's decision .

I'm not as confident as you, the club and Myler have to prove they can make the right decisions, it looks so far like they are slowly getting things right, but they made a real mess with Abdul.
I hope when it's announced the club are truthful with the reasons for him leaving.

I spoke to a member of the backroom staff today. Said that even he’s not 100% sure if he’s gone but not seen him for a few days so assumes he has.
Said he’s got about 15kg to lose and that when you’re in the dreaded ACL recovery group, you see a lot about a player. Been lazy with his recovery and they’re not 100% on how his knee will hold up with all his weight.
I was fuming when I heard he was going as I think he could be a real talent but if he’s not got the right mentality. I guess it’s on to the next player.
Said that everyone is feeling class after a tough preseason but thinks we’re still a cycle away from where we want to be as TS didn’t prioritise strength work enough so the clubs not where it should be but heading in the right direction now.
Used Martin as the prime example. Got real talent, and good leg strength but not physically developed up top yet unlike Barron who had always put a lot of extra work in at the gym

| It would be a real shame if Staveley is leaving, I don't know what (if anything) has gone on behind the scenes but he's the only forward that looks physically ready for SL from the academy, but we have to trust Myler and Cartwrights judgment.
If we're needing experienced backrowers I believe Luis Johnson and Sam Royle are still without a club, they're both young British and could have a point to prove until the end of the season.

| Still think this is a poor move short and long
He isn't a season pro, a young kid coming back from a long term injury.

| Whenever we get a new coach we want them to make the tough decisions & get rid of the players not up to scratch. Until they do & we don’t agree with them then it’s a mistake by the club. If Carty & Myler are happy for Staveley to leave then we’ve got to trust their judgement.

| Not buying this down the pecking order story.
Really hope their is a plan to being 1/2 players in, as we really lack depth in the backrow and halfs now.

Trust in recruitment and retention needs to be earnt and Myler isn't there yet.
Messed up with Abdul, leaving us short in the halfback.

To be fair Dave, I don't think saying Myler messed up the Abdull signing is fair comment, we signed a player that has the ability but lacks the fitness and from what I understand his fitness was a key factor on the deal signed. So in this instance he probably did the right thing having certain stipulations. Lets not forget the market isn't exactly flush with HB's and we weren't exactly an attractive proposition at the time of signing Abdull which was pre takeover and to be fair we still aren't until we show improvement this season.
Myler to give him some credit has moved out some of the players that were poor performing, had poor attitudes, questionable fitness history which we all wanted to see. We now seem a more professional outfit and without the sentimental millstone we had round our necks for years.

| The 'down the pecking order' narrative isn't one I buy either, out of him Kirby and Jebson he was by far the most ready of the 3 young SR's.
Leaves us with what id class as three 'natural' first team SR's in Lane, Cartwright and Holmes, of which Holmes is struggling with a knee issue and Cartwright seems to pick up niggly injuries frequently.

| It is a really odd one. The way he is built, perhaps doesn't lend itself to this injury not repeating itself? Or, it could be what Myler was alluding to last week, the December 1st deadline for players beginning talks, and he was going to leave at the end of the year, so we thought we would release him a year early.
