Quote: chico's nose "I personally believe that Tommy Lee has a long and bright future at Hull FC, and that the signing of Sean Long could kick start his career.

Tommy received a lot of flack the 2 seasons before this, and although I added my opinion on several occasions, I felt that the extent that some supporters went in their criticism was a little too far.

The kid was thrown in at the deep end when we had no other options after a certain skid mark did his dirty on us. Although Tommy never set the world alight, he laced up his boots and tried his best. Although his best was often not good enough, the vast majority of fans simply forgot how young he was and why he was playing for us. In an ideal world he would have had another season or so to develop in the under 21’s before getting the odd chance to sample first team action, unfortunately that was never the case.

I still believe that Tommy has the potential to be a good scrum half, if the club let him get back to basics. He played the socks of the aussies when he played against them at school boy level, and that does not happen by accident. Hull has done to him what they do to too many players in my opinion and that is bulk him up too much. For the past 18months to two years I feel that he has been to big to play SH, thus impacting on his performances when he plays there.

I hope that the club let him run off some of his bulk and use the signing of Long as an opportunity to turn Tommy Lee into the SH he should have always been. The kid is still young, had bags of potential as a SH up until a year or two ago, and now has a chance to train day in day out with one of the best 7’s this country has produced. This gives him the opportunity to rediscover his confidence and form in the position he has played most of his life in. He would still be relatively cheep, so this should be a “Project” for Hull to work on and take advantage of and possibly develop a decent 7 for us for the next 6 or 7 years.'"

Sums it up for me.

Last year I thought he'd been ruined and would never bounce back. No choice but for him to go.

Thankfully I was wrong. Lee has shown immense courage and bravery to weather the tirade and emerge playing his best rugby so far and (one of the minority) with the right attitude. No one could blame him for not wanting to play for Hull this season but he's shown maturity beyond his years to stick two fingers up at the adversity and come back stronger.

He obviously loves Hull despite the fans and should stay. It would be typical of the club to stick by him when he's not performing only to gift him away now he's coming into his own. Much more to come from Tommy, I think.

and who's fault is that icon_confused.gif: tommy was a great prospect as a young kid, same for hall. just maybe it's down to a $iss poor development programme and the faillure of the club to put the right people in charge to bring these kids on, we must be one of the biggest areas for amateur and youth rugby league in the country so why do other clubs seem to bring the promising youngsters on far better than us? i.m.o the club have taken tommy from a promising half back/ball player, bulked him up too much and turned him into yet another utility player!

He has outplayed Berro this year. Would be disappointed to see him go.

As others have said Tommy made all the right noises in his youth days as a Scrum Half and even Houghton came to the clubs attention whilst playing at Half Back.

In recent years we've been void of any decent traditional Scrum Halfs yet at Hooker we've had world class for several years. Its no coincidence that these two young Half Backs became very good young Hookers.

A players development doesn't stop once they make the move up to first team but sadly at Hull it seems to.

I personally feel that with Houghton and Tommy we have what we need at Hooker and I would personally like to see Berrigan move back to Centre.

I've said the same mate as I think he'd cause havoc out wide. My only concern with that is we don't get the ball out wide enough and he may end up being wasted. If we start playing more expansive with Long in the side then it wouldn't be a bad option.

I do however expect him to stay at hooker but I don't have a problem with that either.

Would be a very poor decision to let him go but this is one area we seem to be champions at! Has shown huge resilience after all the unfair garbage thrown at him. I am always amazed by the unwarranted adultation for other Hull born players who are more experienced, make far more mistakes and lack commitment compared to Lee who is talented, is still learning and has bags of enthusiasm and energy. He maybe a bit arrogant off the field but this is a common and often needed characteristic of many sports stars and thank god he is because if he didn't believe in himself and listened to some on here he would now be a 1st Diviision player.

I dont think centre would suit Berro these days. Play him at 13 next year maybe an option to expand our game a bit and allows him to get in at dummy half when needed

Any failings Tommy Lee has as SH rests squarely on the shoulders of the coaching staff in thier inability to nurture the talent he had as a youngster, the same applies to Danny Houghton, he was City/County and Country SH. Dont blame the kids, what position did Andy Last play?

alot of young talented players dont make the grade not due to the fault of the coaching staff but to there over inflated egos and listening to the groupies (ash etc icon_wink.gif ) who fill there heads full of e telling them how good they are, you see them swanning about thinking they are the dogs, when unfortunately they arent and dont reach the heights that they and the groupies think they can icon_lol.gif
as for a current youngsters who have the talent to change and win games look at Tomkins and Eastmond and not Sir Tommy poty
