| Quote Kosh="Kosh"So you based your opinion purely on a rumours thread and a bit of speculation? I can see why you'd expect us to take that seriously.
No, really.
I didn't miss your point - I ignored it. You see, our new owner has been making the very same point pretty much since the day he took over and has spent money on developing just such a youth system as you describe. It won't be done in a day, or a season, or maybe a few seasons - but it will be done.
And if you seriously think that we've built a good base every year for the last few years then you really haven't been paying attention.'"
I do indeed think you have had a good base of players, the one thing that was missing was a good coach, you have had some wonderful players over the last 6-7 years.
I just don't see the point of blind optimism from some sections of your supporters when it is obvious that you are behind about 60% of SL clubs in the youth policy stakes (as are Rovers).

| Quote Tigerade="Tigerade"Just out of interest - I know you are letting a few players go for next season (mostly squad players) but are reported to be bringing a new half-back pair in plus 4 more high-quality signings. no-one knows but it's about time we started doing it.

Which is why the club have invested heavily in the youth setup isince AP has arrived, thought that had been mentioned.

More than just squad players leaving, I would say more the entire backbone of the team!

We've had very few top quality players over that period of time, and haven't even been spending full cap for the last several seasons. More to the point, even when we've had one or two good quality players in the squad we've filled most of the other places with distinctly average players.
Quote FONT="FONT"I just don't see the point of blind optimism from some sections of your supporters when it is obvious that you are behind about 60% of SL clubs in the youth policy stakes (as are Rovers).'"
What 'blind optimism'? You get more pessimism on here than optimism every day of the week. However, the fact remains that we will have a much better squad next season than this season and even with the youth system still in a period of development that should improve results significantly.

| Quote Stanley Unwin="Stanley Unwin"On another note, and I don't think its been mentioned?
Has there always been a transfer deadline in Super League? I don't seem to remember it from any other season?
Does it actually acheive anything at this stage of the season?'"
Yes, it stops us signing Simone Faumuina for 3 games and consequently Brough being dropped for him (by the chairMAN), chucking his dummy out and leaving for another team

It seems that a lot of the players that we will be signing will be young, and when Pearson mentions 'internationals' I am assuming that he'll be counting England Knights in that. Therefore, I expect that several of the signings will be along the lines of Liam Watts and Joe Arundel - young players, lots of potential, England Knights.
There'll then be a couple of 'big earning' signings - Gareth Ellis and whichever halfback(s) we get.
The real priority for us will be making sure that we sign atleast 1 halfback and 2 props because we're looking very weak in the front row (Only Lynch, Watts, Bowden signed up for next year).

| Disappointed that Chase isn't coming in straight away. However absolutely buzzing with excitement regarding Pearson's comments. He's spot on with when he talks about the mediocrity which has been our hallmark under the previous regime and I don't care if one or two of the current team are upset by his comments. Looking forward to seeing the team we deserve at long last.
