[quote="The Dentist Wilf":2qb3ho01]I found this an interesting read particularly about the ability now for other clubs to approach players contacted for this season after 1st December and the fact that some clubs will hear players are leaving and say "Just go then if you don't want to play for us" I expect that will eventually [u:2qb3ho01]be the case for at least one young player at our club[/u:2qb3ho01] but only time will tell. There will be a lot of movement in the next couple of months across the game as things become more clear with clubs approaching players with less than a year left on their contracts and it will be interesting to see which clubs retain those players and which ones say well If you don't want to play for us then 'Bugger" off!

I hope its not Staveley and/or Wainhouse.

Mmmmm Sadly as we all know it can be the hope that kills you! In the process we are currently going through there is always the odd casualty and it can be one you hope at the time doesn’t go ![ASK :ASK:]({SMILIES_PATH}/icon_ask.gif)

It would be a shame if it was one of them, but over the next few years we need people to want to play for Hull FC to rebuild the brand that's been battered over the last few years. It may sound arrogant when you're demanding that after finishing joint bottom, but hopefully the changes that have been made would encourage anyone to give it another shot. With them both coming off the back of serious injury maybe they felt the care they received was sub-par, and by the reports coming out of the club, it probably was.

| I think Myler is talking more long term, I'd be suprised if any fringe players would want to leave Hull, hard to imagine many other clubs where there would be a better pathway to the first team.

| I can't imagine he's talking about anybody right now. The fact he uses the word "eventually" and then says "time will tell".
But he is right in what he is saying, because eventually (to use the word again) one of our younger players surely will get their head turned, unless we can show (and it is what we are aiming to do) that their is a genuine pathway into the first team and be able to use Martin, Balmforth, Charles, Kemp as examples that that is true

| Salford take over done, good for the game. Hope the fans back them now.
As mentioned before, a fire sale at Salford wouldn't have been good for us.

| Seems all 12 clubs now have wealthy owners, time to put their heads together, get the right TV deal and get the sport moving in the right direction.
Can't see a better opportunity.
Also all clubs in a good position, so harder to sign players and the NRL will be looking more at our players, so youth players become more and more important.

I fear it may be one of them.
I also see the RFL have just announced that the points system for misdemeanours has now sensibly been deemed to start from 1st January and with not see a carry over from last year's transgressions. Ligi will l be pleased ![Laughing ]({SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif)

If all the owners are genuinely wealthy then maybe it is time to say to SKY improve the deal or we're off.
Putting games on streaming with some key games on BBC/Channel4 is a big financial gamble but something has to change. Also need to factor in the cost of filming the games. That said even the BBC would cough up more if you were giving them games like the season opener, Good Friday and the Grand Final rather than 3rd choice pick.

I'm not sure if the due Diligence isn't taking longer than expected but your right there is certainly a delay.

What is Jepson worth, had a quick look and couldn't find it.
Probably worried about the cost of getting their stadium upto standard.

No I can't find it but this is what I read about
Castleford Tigers extend Martin Jepson’s option purchase deadline until end of April with “deeper investigation” needed into “some areas”

The question is could the game currently afford to dump SKY? Is it that the the RFL haven't really marketed or sold the game well enough or indeed at all to the other TV and media outlets or is there simply not enough significant interest from other parties willing to pay to screen live games?
I can't remember the specifics of the new SKY deal as to if there was a limit to games that could be broadcast outside of SKY but seem to remember TNT Sports and DAZN were in the running for the rights but the RFL chose SKY. That said you'd think that a good marketer would have been able to have sold the rights to broadcast a handful of games to either TNT or DAZN.
For me the RFL just don't seem to market themselves well enough and it appears from the outside its more comfortable/easier for them to stay within the norm as in stick with SKY like they have since the inception of SL than push outside of the comfort zone and work hard to secure better.

I could be way off in my thoughts Pete but imagine it may well be something to do with the level of investment required elsewhere in terms of the facilities on top of any investment in the club itself given that Cas potentially face the very real threat of being in a fight at the bottom and the financial consequences of relegation.
As I say I could be wrong and it maybe just be a case of simply ironing out a few minor details, who knows.

I guess its more down to pressure from the clubs rather than a decision by the RFL that they have climbed down but sense finally sees the light .

| From what I've read on the Cas/Jepson situation I think he's looking to get extra investors on board before completing the takeover but there doesn't seem to be much interest and the takeover is in the balance.

Super league needs to pull away from the RFL and align themselves to teams in the NRL.
That alone would would enhance the game in the UK when you have Aussie fans and media following their UK team
Increase the cap substantially so that the UK game has a lot more superstars on view.Thats the way you can really start to market the game when R/L superstars become household names and people start to follow them and the game.
The interlink of an Aussie club and a UK club could also be used as an outside quota means of a limited interchange of players during a season.
TV will always follow success and trying to get TV deals for a product that lacks an audience and Superstars is the wrong way round.
The NRL is a great product but they also spend big on marketing and dont stand still.
The RFL have over the years proved to be not fit for purpose so if we now have a sport where most of the S/L teams have wealthy owners it should be time to ditch the RFL and IMG with it.

I can't imagine the RFL have turned up for negotiations in the past looking organised with a crack team of negotiatiors. I can also see from SKYs point of view that SL has gone for ideas they weren't in favour of previously, under the Super8s system for example they were having to show games involving Championship teams scheduled at short notice.
I'm not sure having a 3rd broadcaster is an option because most fans wouldent pay for a 3rd service just to see a handful pf games. I go down the pub for TNT Champions League games rather than subscribe for example.

For me the problem with the NRL is that when Aussie’s talk about the potential of the game over here they seem to think that there’s huge untapped potential in big cities like London, Birmingham etc and just assume that they’ll be successful like they have in Melbourne growing the game if they put SL teams in big cities. People say ‘marketing’ like it’s a magic wand.
Don’t get me wrong I’d trust them to make a better fist of expansion then the RFL, but I don’t think they understand the dominance of football and how difficult it would be. I also think they’d underestimate the tribalism of supporters and try to merge some of the big clubs and think it could be a disaster.

I’m only speculating but I think any NRL influence in SL would just turbo charge any plans for mergers. They’d look at clubs like Hull and Rovers and think they could make a Brisbane type super club. On paper it makes sense, but we know it would be a disaster.
