Ridiculous if true. When are the RFL going to bite the bullet on this issue and actually implement the quotas they've been talking about for the last decade? Clubs choosing to genuinely invest in the youth system are being screwed over IMO

Bear in mind that the Gene Exemption is self-limiting. Only players who were here before Feb 08 can apply, so that's a fixed pool many of whom have already come off.

The new overseas quota was never really going to bite until 2011 when the total number drops to 5, regardless of where they come from.

Assuming that there's no further round of exemptions and loopholes, which given the RFL's form is a big assumption. Will believe it when it happens, personally.

The quota system is a gentlemens agreement between the clubs, if one wants to challenge the quota it will go. Its not enforceable under European law and is a "restraint of trade" .

A few clubs have muttered this in meetings of the RFL and rules have been altered or amended to accomodate them and maintain this sham of "quota".

If one team suddenly decides to field an entire team from OZ in SL I doubt anyone could stop it, the limiting factor would be visa clearance.

Makes a lot of sense. Sort of thing someone with, say, a legal background and a vested interest, might try and capitalise on.
