| A4e are being investigated for fraud. If you want to know who makes the money out of the government take a look at Thornbridge hall, home of A4e founder Emma Harrison.

| I appreciate there are people out there who just don't want to know about work but there are people who genuinely do. I've been fortunate having worked at one of the city's biggest factory employers for 30 years since leaving school. For the past 7-8 years this firm has used an agency to fill gaps in the workforce. Some of these lads, lasses, have worked alongside me on half the wages i earn doing the same job and working as hard. The company have now decided to advertise these jobs and opened it for these agency workers to apply for them, and lo and behold the said agency workers are told they are not upto doing the job they've done for the last X amount of years. So they have set people on from management backgrounds to do labouring jobs who don,t want to know, and saunter around all day or try to get behind a computer so they don't have to graft. So is there any wonder some folk don't want to know after this sort of treatment, they just lose heart and i really feel for some of these agency workmates who will shortly be out there looking for work.

| I have been lucky in my working life ..Always had a job "retied now" But I feel sorry for the youngsters today ..Real money should be found to train people to get real jobs I fear for the future we will run out of skilled people .. My opinion when people get to 60/65 they should be made to retire to give younger people a chance to work ..Its about time we started looking at our future in this Country instead of giving money away to other Countries ..Good luck to people looking for work

| I have just finished the Elevate course at A4e which was featured last week and i can tell you its nothing like it is on the TV. I am a single parent ( through no fault of my own ) and have worked ever since leaving college even through having my 3 children. I had a really good job and all of a sudden hubby runs off with a barmaid and wham, im left with nothing. I never wanted to claim benefits but had no choice. I tried everything to get a job but with no success. I volunteered for this course and was not forced onto it as my youngest has only just turned 2. There is good and bad things about A4e and having done my work placement actually working for them ive seen both sides. The majority have been forced there and nothing you do is good enough. A4e will do anything for you and help you find a job but you cant help those who dont wanna be helped. They blame A4e for everything when really its the jobcentre who are forcing them to be there. There are good and bad staff as in every company but the majority want to help. I actually came away from there feeling more deflated than when i started but then A4e got me an interview for a job this morning and i start on tues so they will help those who genuinely want to find work.

There will always be people who don't want to work but for those who genuinely want to work, let's face it, the country is shot. It's difficult to find work and even more difficult to find a career. Where is all of the manufacturing - China? If you work in the factory at Smith and Nephew, what do you think is going to happen to manufacturing there? We are rapidly becoming a service-based country but even parts of that are moving (or have already moved abroad to countries like India). So what's left - diamond cutting? The new European countries have cheap, well-educated workforces and lots of tax advantages for businesses as well that make it even easier to move service centres. Just so long as you have accounting practices that haven't changed for 150 years and boards of directors whose only aim is to engineer the figures so that the markets are "encouraged by performance" and shareholders can pull in their dividends it will only get worse. How many of you have looked to your left and seen a contractor doing the work one of your mates can do but being paid more than double? When you ask why, you're told that they're short-term (although they've been there for over two years - even with IR35). At my last permanent position a contractor had already been there for two years before I joined and was there when I left three years later. The truth is, they don't appear on the P&L - they're not part of the headcount. So they can show it as a "real cost-saving" because they can reduce headcount (or "people" as we like to call them). It's unfair but perfectly acceptable practise. I am now a contractor because I can't find full-time work. I can, however, find a contract at twice the money. Strange that, isn't it. Hang on, I'm getting a nose-bleed on my high horse.
