Let's be honest, whilst it's great winning at the moment and beating KR, Warrington and Saints was epic we still have a long long way to go before we commit to handing out a renewal to a coach that has only taken us backward the last two seasons.
Hang back and wait until the rest of the season unfurls then make a decision.'"

So he will not get a contract because of 2 years ago? He took us backwards with another coaches squad.

| Deserves another 2 year deal his work in improving the squad together with AP and Motu is staying to bear fruit albeit certainly not complete. A number of young players are improving under his guidance as well which is encouraging.

Did the previous coach improve us with another coaches squad and get us to a final Yes or No?
Did the previous coach have an extension to his contract or was he sacked for improving our position with the previous coaches squad, yes or no?
Lee Radford was the assistant coach in 2013, in 2014 he coached us to 11th place with a team that had the backbone of the CC final team and a 6th place, finishing 11th is/was inexcusable.
Lee Radford coached the 2015 side with a raft of better players he signed to 8th place still worse than the previous coach
Did Lee Radford improve on where we finished in 2012 and 2013, Yes or No?
Has Lee Radford achieved any success as yet or improved us thus far during his tenure, Yes or No?
At this moment in time Radford, with the best squad assembled for some years, is doing okay. We have won some games convincingly, we have lost some games with stupid dumb rugby and back to type tactics, one game we capitulated totally. We have had a come back win that really did ignite us to where we are now and two great wins over contenders including the league leaders which is fantastic.
However he still is a long way from proving that he has what it takes to take us to be competing/winning silverware. PAst indicators are all we can go on as of right now and that indicates he is a risk to give an extension, what if we fall by the wayside like last season after winning a few games?
When we are nearer to season end we can fully judge whether he deserves a year or whatever the club/AP think appropriate, handing out a contract now would be premature, if you can't see the reasoning then that's not my fault

I think he'll get the offer of a couple of years. He's set out what he wants to do in terms of U23s etc and Pearson has backed him. Recruitment has been very good, some of this due to Tony, granted. Pearson really seems to rate him. Top Aussie coaches generally seem out of SL teams' reach.
I do think there could be some interest in him, not from a bigger club, but look at recent appointments at Saints, Wigan, Hudersfield etc, all assistants with no first team coaching experience. If Huddersfield, for example, binned off Anderson tomorrow, whom they appointed as an assistant, it wouldn't be ridiculous to link Radford in. OOC, persuaded Shaul to stick with RL and Hull when Gentle didn't rate him. Reputation for taking youth development seriously. Nearly 3 years time served at a good sized club. Stock is rising based on first half of this year. I'd be surprised if we weren't down the road in talks for a 2 year deal.

If he doesn't stay, who is the alternative?
Anderson will be gone from Huddersfield in 6 weeks unless they seriously improve, likewise Mcdermott and Cunningham, IF Smith is Rovers bound then Warrington need a coach, so thats 4 sides possibly recruiting.?

I think Smith ruled himself out of the Rovers link, but they've said "We have a stand-out candidate. We are expecting the appointment to be a top line coach with experience and a finer understanding of the game." I don't think Radford is quite in that lofty bracket.
But you're right, in all probability there'll be a couple of vacancies to be filled elsewhere plus ours if we let Radford go and a limited pool of experienced candidates. I can see him getting a gig elsewhere, but not sure whether a West Yorkshire or Lancashire move would be what he's after.

Maybe incentivise the deal, top 8 come the split - one year, top 4 come the split 2 years?

| I have never been a fan of LR and didn't want him as coach to begin with. After his first two seasons my mind was still the same.
However, credit were credit is due, with the help of AP he has assembled probably our best squad in two decades, and our recent performances should be rewarded with at least a year extension (I say that through gritted teeth lol). He is a young coach with plenty to learn and AP has stuck with him when the going was rough so it's difficult to see him bringing a new coach when he is starting to see some light in the tunnel.

The person we've identified as the coach we want to take us forward in the long-term isn't in a position to take up a position at this stage.
"We've been in talks and will make an announcement when we're in a position to."
When I first read this I immediately thought he meant Radford. It would be the sort of coup Hudgell would revel in, the snatching of a man Pearson has put his faith in taking precedence. Perhaps we are being naive as to think other clubs aren't interested and something like this is the reason we haven't heard yet.
For me, I still think it's a little soon to be convinced of the longevity of our success. Since our collapse after Catalans we've had 3 bum-sqeakingly close wins and a slightly more convincing victory against the bottom club, sealed when their best player was on the bench.
I wish we had more time for Pearson to make the decision although I recognize the need for the coaches job to be secured so other commitments can be secured with that understanding in place.

That's exactly my view. Had we not come back from the dead at rovers then I doubt we'd have beaten wire or saints as those wins came on the back of the belief we had from the derby win. Having said that we did win them so in reality we have to credit radford and he probably deserves an extension. I'd prefer 12 months but realistically it needs to be 2 years. Still not convinced we're playing as well as we should be with the players we have but you can't argue with recent results
