As with all things they pass and we move on. One thing you can't take back are the memories. I don't have fantastic thoughts about Threepennies I never stood in there. Think I sat in it once, but the ground wasn't about that old stand for me. Although the two seats I have from the stand will always remain special.

My first match was in 76 and while I don't recall the match or the date. It would have been around Nov / Dec time I do know I loved the whole match day experience from the off.
The smell of deep heat or whatever they used. The sound of the crowd even if as a 6 year old I had no idea what most of it meant.

Seeing the players in the dug out. We stood in the well at the time. Standing on the wall next to the dugout and hearing what the coaches etc were saying, providing some short didn't tell you to get down.

It was magical for a kid of 6.

Then moving on we stood behind the sticks (Airlie Street end) and enjoyed the golden era from there. We are a big family and many of us would be stood there with close friends. It was great. Most of my friends had dull Sunday afternoons at home watching bullseye and songs of praise. I had the Boulevard (or many an away game).
We were the cream of the RL world. It was brilliant.
So my favourite childhood memories are there seeing the stars of the day.

In later years with only 4 or 5 thousand there it wasn't such a sporting spectacle but it was still special.
That final night was not going to be missed by me. I raced up north from work and remember taking 10 minutes to myself to reflect on the old place. I shed a tear as we said goodbye. But it was time to move on.
There was no way I'd take my kids to it today in the state it was in. They are spoilt today. (And if you follow me on twitter you will know my kids visit many sports grounds)

Yes I miss the place. But it was time to move on. I will tell my kids about it. They see a picture of the place every day on our wall. But the KC is home now and despite some concerns it will be our home for a long time to come. I just hope we get some special Sunday's there to as they are to few and far between for my liking.

Quote: The Dentist Wilf "A good bite at the corner and then drink the contents, probably the best meat pies ever made. When I was an apprentice I was sent there every Friday lunchtime on my bike to get everyone a pie for lunch....brilliant! They moved from being near Welstead street further down Hessle Road to near West Dock Avenue but the pies never tasted the same. Top Memory KBII!!'"

I thought Hydes closed the shop near Welstead Street, after Mr Hyde retired (or possibly died). IIRC the shop near West Dock Ave was owned by someone trying to recreate Hydes "Original" pies.

I loved his pork pies too: none of that bloody 'orrible jelly in 'em

Quote: Mrs Barista "Sound like the stuff of legend. Anyway, it's rolled over to £150m, so with the extra £7m I'm tracking down the recipe and installing concessions with free pies for all.'"

With the PC brigade the way it is nowadays, you'll also have to provide free mental health advice with every pie over the dangers of a pie based diet.

First games I remember were about 85, and I went to both Hull and Rovers (mum and dad batted for different teams) I saw full sense in about 90 icon_biggrin.gif

Happy days!! As a boy of around 8 years old I used to leave our house with my dad in the late 40's, walk along Woodcock Street (calling in at Ivor Watts shop for some sweets) and then join up with my grandad, three uncles, 1 aunty and 1 cousin to stand at the Gordon Street end. My cousin incidentally would stand behind the goal and act as ballboy. It must have been good training because he went on to play for Hull and East Riding where he became their record points scorer (traitor).

Laurie also opened early on the Friday before a Wembley final, so we could get a tray of fresh pies to take on the train. Then we'd go to the Chicken Shop in South Street and get a tray of barbecue chickens and ham shanks. We usually needed a couple of BR sack barrows to ferry all the ale down the platform to the train. I loved the look on the faces of all the businessmen as we climbed aboard the Pullman.

We always took bin liners with us though and bagged up all the garbage before we left

Use to regularly leave the ar5e area of my jeans flapping in the breeze on the barbed wire trying to climb over Best stand toilets behind were i use to live . Enough was enough when I was made to go to school in a pair of check flairs on the Monday . I died that day ...so many times !!
When ever we did get in though , It was a great game of chase with the groundsmen we called Pegleg & Blackbeard.

Quote: Mrs Barista "Going to be ace.

A new Threepenny stand with built-in urinal channels
Guinness, real ale and Stella on draught, brought to your seat or standing place
Padded seats, with heating option for the likes of me
Starbucks concession, selling Victoria sponge and proper suet pastry meat pies
Closed corners
Easy access off M62, free parking
State of the art media screens and sound system
Heritage walkway up to the main entrance, paved with Hull FC stars of the past, like the walk of fame
Massive statue of Johnny Whiteley

What have I missed?

A ban on mobile phones or a scrambling device to block all signals esp internet.
