| Quote: Wilde 3 "I just think your pushing out youngsters names for the sake of it when they wouldnt actually offer anything more than the people currently playing there.
You have a case with Lineham over Crookes, Green over Pitts, Bowden over Johnson etc - but not Kent over Galea'"
i know what you mean but i don't mean as 1st choice i just mean in the squad over galea although he has scored tries i just don't see what the point in signing him was or what he actually brings to us hes slow lazy slipping off tackles hes simply past it

| i disagreed with the Galea signing - but then you step back and look from a different perspective and you think that we have quite a young, emerging pack of forwards.
This guy has had a good career, a lot of experience and was a very good players. If he can guide the likes of Green, Pitts, Kent, Hadley etc then that would be invaluable. I dont actually think he will get a lot of game time when Ellis is back - but what he can do on the training pitch with these young lads is probably better long term than what he will do on the pitch

| I would have thought the descion to play Briscoe at FB was probably of his attacking abilities, running the ball back and joining the attack are two of Briscoe's strenghts and we have been saying we need to get him into the game.
It didn't work but at least he tried something.

We've tried that before (Widnes A last year) and it failed miserably.
Time to stop moving players around and play them in there proper positions.

| In fairness to Gentle's decision to play Briscoe at Fullback, this is how we currently stand with the fullbacks:
McDonnell - Injured
Shaul - Injured
Horne - in the halves, 2 halfbacks unavailable.
So there weren't many other things he could have done - maybe played Crookes at FB and keep Briscoe on the wing but it still wouldn't have been ideal.

Or maybe, as has been said many times, Whiting at FB?

| Whiting would have been a better choice. We know he can play anywhere.
I think it's harsh to say that Gentle doesn't promote from within. Bowden, Green, Kent, Lineham and Nicklas have all had chances under Gentle.

Ben Crooks too.
IF he'd played Whiting there at the weekend and Dixon had ran around him for that try then all that would have happened is the same people would've said he should have played Briscoe there because Whiting's too slow.
We could afford to move Briscoe off the wing because we had Jason Crookes waiting in the wings so to speak.

| Hi (first post, been looking on here for a while and this felt like the right time to finally join), Didn't Briscoe play Full Back against Rover's last year (for about 20 mins)? If I remember right he actually scored a really good full back's try backing up down the middle. In theory playing Briscoe at Full back isn't as ridiculous as it sounds, we all moan he is our most potent attacking threat and doesn't get enough ball from Yeaman so at Full Back he will touch the ball more often and get us on the front foot. In relation to playing Whiting at Full Back - are we saying we would rather have someone who has played all season at 2nd row/loose forward at Full Back than Briscoe? I didn't actually get there on Saturday so I can't comment on his performance over the 80 mins but surely we would be better giving him a go on Friday again - seen as it's a big ask for Shaul to come back and play in the derby as soon as he comes back from injury. As for promoting from within I aren't sure what else Gentle could have done this past week, Shaul injured, Kent injured and by all accounts that is why Green and Bowden didn't play, correct me if I am wrong. We can't really complain about him not promoting from within - we have had more (or at least similar number of) youngsters come through than most teams in the last year since Gentle took over - maybe with the exception of Wigan and Rovers? (although quite a few have left from last season from Rovers)

I agree in part with what your saying but the fact is Briscoe had him in his grasp and I honestly think two tries wouldn't of been scored if Whiting was put in those exact same situations. However it's all b*ll*cks as we can't turn back time.
