When Hull got him i remember asking a player what he was like, the player said "he can kick goals,he can kick goals, and he can kick goals. From this i drew the assumption that the only thing he was good at was kicking goals and his stay at Hull soon ended.

Tickle is very consistent , I was always impressed by Hewitt , Pearce and of Course Sammy !

Back in the 80s , I admired John Woods when at leigh - never seemed to miss a kick !

As for best goalkicking moments.....

Charlie Birdsall from the Threepenny Stand touchline in the final few minutes to draw the Derby in 1979. k020.gif

Sammy's 2nd kick v Widnes in the 1980 Semi Final (see You Tube as previously referenced) a014.gif

Danny Brough's kicking in the 2005 Final icon_biggrin.gifRUMMER:

Before my time, but I think Colin Hutton kicked a last minute goal from the touchline at Maine Road, in the late 1950's to win us the Championship Final (the Grand Final equivalent). icon_biggrin.gifANCE:

Finally, I always remember seeing David Marshall (not a great kicker) miss a penalty under the sticks at Craven Park in the mid to late seventies. As the local faithful cheered, imagine our joy as the ball rebounded off the posts for our winger to score under the posts. icon_lol.gif

Decent player. I remember he took us out of a John Player Semi Final one year. Not quite Featherstone at Wembley, but I don't think you could get a bet on Barrow before the game! icon_biggrin.gifOH:

Agree. Of all the kickers I've seen, he was the best.

I remember in the game when Offiah got ten tries v Leeds, he kept deliberately scoring as far in the corner as possible just to test Botica. He just kept kicking them over!! eusa_clap.gif

Quote: The Dentist Wilf "Loking back over the years when I was a kid Bateson (542 in 13icon_cool.gif was really good but we scored a lot of tries in the late 50's, Keegan good too, but for me in the last 50 years John Maloney must have been the most accurate and consistant! 675 goals in 224 appearances and in his day there were alot of low scoring games played on glue pot pitches! Lloyd was a brilliant kicker but many of the games he played in were high scoring affairs with lots of opportunity's. In more recent times Tickle has been superb but its Maloney for me!'"

Didn't see Maloney but Sammy's record is superior in terms of kicks per game played; 366 in 103 appearances (18 as sub)

As a point of fact aside from the 1978/79 season Lloyd & Maloney played in very similar average points per game seasons.

Maloney played 6 seasons I believe with Hull's league av points from 1965-71 as 13/14.4/15.5/14.5/12.3 & 18
Lloyd's main goal kicking seasons we averaged 27/15/15/ per league game not sure how many games he played in the 82/83 I know he shared the kicking with crooks at one point and was injured for a fair few games.
Even in the cup comps we only averaged 13/15/14.7 (78/79,79/80,80/81) so really Lloyd wasn't in much more high scoring games than Maloney to be fair. In Batesons 4 seasons we averaged 24/21/20/16 points per league game as a comparison.

In Adam we have trust In peter we have belief In our team we have pride:

Paul prendiville if only for his outstanding tache, massive smile and his full length runs down the threepenny stand side for kicking one from in front of the sticks.

Nice to see John Maloney get a mention. Absolutely terrific gent, and still knocking about the Batley/Dewsbury area. I got to know him from working behind the bar at a club in Batley he frequents, and subsequently sold him some furniture for his spare bedroom by way of my then full-time occupation - half-price due to staff discount. That was about five years ago, and he still always buys me a drink when I bump into him. I reckon he could have carved out a career as a top coach, but only dabbled in the trade and preferred to concentrate on various business ventures.

Mark Hewitt hands down, he rarely missed !

I remember one friday night Hewitt coming onto the pitch at half time to do a goal kicking competition which included a player from Penrith Panthers at the time.

Hewitt stumbled on the pitch half ed and a bottle in his hand and kicked 3 goals from infront of the threepenney stand.

John Maloney best goal kicker we had ,trying to put stats against him and Sammy is impossiable never saw Sammy kick one from half way line .
Maloney kicked 2 from there on his debut against NZ .

H.Oulton was some thing special as a kicker thighs bigger than any props and he was a winger saw him kick one from just out side his own 25 line at the Boulevard , pity could not score tries

F.Miller was good to but loved the old kicking jewel bit like RU fullbacks of 60's .

Arthur Keegan was a good kicker to highest point scorer on tour down under but your not allowed to say that as he didn't play for Wigan
