Me too. If Wigan want Hame they'll know he has the potential to play like he did at THAT St Helens game every week, with the correct man-management. With our new McGuire-esque Aussie-assistant coach and McRae to do just that, we should hang onto him ourselves, or regret it. What's the quota/fed-trained situation like, though?

When we signed him from the Warriors all their fans said that he is one the most frustrating players to watch as every now and then he produces a beast of a performance and then produces weeks of nothing but averageness, to me he has done exactly the same at Hull, while it is the norm on here to blame Agar for his poor performances i think it is more to do with Lauaki himself, i for one will not be dissapointed to see him leave as i honestly don`t see what he offers to the team.

Been a big disappointment and IMO it's a lack of ability and attitude on his part. Glad to see him go but we really need to replace him with someone better who can play prop/SR.

Disagree. He has not been consistent enough and is a waste of an overseas spot IMO. He's not been terrible - just OK - but his performances have not been stand out in any way. For a big man he's not that difficult to tackle. If it was down to man management why have some players improved in the last 4 years ? The variable is the player not the coaching team. In quota terms Obst is more valuable than Lauaki in the sense that play makers are harder to come by than average forwards.
Just because Wigan might want him doesn't mean we should want/need him as well. We'd be better off introducing a young forward who stays on the pitch longer.

| Like I said earlier on another thread, we need Lauaki to be consistently somewhere between what we're getting now and the crazy, aggressive penalty machine we sometimes see. If that happens, I'd keep him for another year.

The Rugby Football League are in the process of reviewing the video that you are referring to. We do not condone behaviour of this nature and have contacted the player’s employer, Hull F.C., who have confirmed that they are dealing with the incident under their club rules.

If you want a player in the lower leagues with a high try scoring record look at the afghan kid, Omar Slaimankhel, playing fb for new Zealand warriors u20's.

As usual, you make valid points - and I agree about Obst.
Feel we haven't got the best out of Lauaki, though, and not necessarily for the reasons usually trotted out.
I think he made his intentions and capabilities clear in that first game but in doing so attracted the collective attentions of the refs who subsequently seemed to have an agenda with him. Penalized for even running out onto the pitch, conversely he was left massively unprotected by the referees who seemed to ignore anyone who wanted to have a go. If Hame even so much as looked his aggressor in the eye he copped the penalty, not them.
Within a few weeks it had all been squashed out of him and he morphed into the average tentative player we've seen ever since. I'm not saying it was Agar's fault, but I do wonder if McGuire thinks he can harness that devastation more constructively, and, frankly, if a new bloke here could do the same, I'd rather we have him than have to play against him with Wigan.

| If we don't want Obst and we can't find a club for him to go to just pay him off, that will release money for the cap.

Tbh its just a name from an email an acquaintance sent me saying his agent had had contact with us about a possible move as we're actively towards the NRL for a centre/winger.

That's only if we have cap available this year.
I personnally think the Gleeson Deal took us to full cap, my opinion is that if we weren't at full cap we may have given debuts to some of the younger squad players.

I mentioned Mickey Paeas brother the other day, I wouldn't be surprised if were looking at 30 overseas centres.

No it's not, just pay him off after nov 1st.
If he doesn't play a game his salary doesn't count on the cap.

I think you will find that, when you "pay a player off" like that, the termination settlement is spread over the remaining term of his original contract. This means that you tie up cap space in future years in respect of a player who is no longer with you. This is completely separate to a player being declared and having a Salary Cap Value for the year/s in question. If you think about it, anything else would lead to massive abuses.
Check out the Salary Cap section of the operational Rules?
Sorry...as you were...
