good for him, he's possibly gone from feeling sorry for himself to thinking "f'k this, I want to keep playing, I better put myself in the shop window"
always happy to see players do better than expected, especially in a Hull shirt.

I have been very critical of Dowes this season and it was nice to be proven wrong by him.I thought he has been excellent this weekend and he looks like his old self again.I just hope he carry's on the good work for the remainder of the season.

Brilliant, better start saving now for the events if he has as many as Horney did. Had some cracking days/nights out.
Back to Dowes, did great again yesterday.

Exactly. He's running hard on every drive, winning the collision far more and doing more hard minutes. Looked the Dowes of old yesterday.

| I've always had a soft spot for Dowesy and probably one of the reasons I've never really gone to town on him.
He never does anything spectacular he is just a pure grafter and I love the fact he will always put his hand up and stick in a shift for the team. We've probably had his better days out of him but no one can ever question his commitment to the team and the fans.
When you have players out there who are extremely windy, dirty or just hit and miss at least with Dowes you know what you will get and thats just pure graft. Every team needs one at the end of the day. I think the fact he's found himself on the fringes recently has maybe gave him that extra edge which can only be good for us.

| I like Dowes too - you cannot have a pack full of O'Meley's or Moa's - you need players that can do a stint and be consistent - albeit that compared to previous seasons has been hit and miss but I'm glad he seems to be getting it back.
I dont think he has lost a battle with Fozzard, which makes me happy, and I remember a game against Saints at the KC a couple of years back, where Gardner's kick return, time and time again fround Ewan's shoulder and he was smashed every time!

and against popular belief he was my mom in the derby. Needs to play like that every week to deserve a new deal though

I would agree with you there on both counts dave, But he has to be fair not had much op recently but has certainly caused the coaches a headache now with selection mate!!!
thought he was outstanding against Warrington too, laid a few bellringers on their so called big guns...
Every club has a player like Ewan, solid, not fancy but always there when needed and thrives on the ugly stuff ( no offence to his squeeze who is a cracker by the way)
hopefully he will now get an extended run and show more of that , alongside Hame who has also upped his game along with everyone else we are looking solid at present arent we?
Also a thought back to Dowes , the train of thought is good props dont hit their prime till around 30 so maybe he is just naturally developing having worked alongside of Mark, Craig , Hame and sam and co who have more experience???

I'd class James Graham as a good prop and I believe he is 25/26? I'd also say Dowes has more first team experience than Moa or Lauaki. Can see what you mean about turning up everyday and training with O'Meley and Fitz though.
I just think we saw a guy chomping at the bit for action, who's had to bide his time to prove people wrong and fight for another years contract..on that form he has every chance.

I can see your point but what i meant was maybe this is the speed in which he has personally developed and having Hame ogre etc who all have international reps to their name has brought something else to his game.
very much worth another year in my opinion
