| The biggest difference Horney made for me today, apart from his poor kicking was that he was pushing through looking for the offload at least 2 plays every set, giving the ball carrier more options when taking a drive. We won't come up against many better packs than Hudds today, so if Horney can stay fit this could be a big difference for the rest of the season.

Sums our current situation...Now whether we make top 8 will depend on how much longer we have to put up with an incompetent coach.

| I thought we actually tackled quite well and put in lots of effort but when we leveled we just went back to barging it down the middle and that was a game we was never gonna win with there big pack. We were also like most weeks our worst enemies making far too many unforced errors. I cannot remember the last time we had a fullback who when an high ball goes into the air we we were confident the ball was going to be caught. Crabtree was immense and brough's kicking game killed us.
Has for Horne i thought he did ok for his 1st game back after a long layoff he's certainly a better option than turner. He's also the only support player we have at the club and the only player who looks to push up into the line.

| Quote: Mrs Barista "I'll start with a plea to not make this about Agar. Just this one thread.
Horrendous start and looked like Danny Brough was going to rip us a new one at first. Our rubbish discipline just piggy-backed them up the field. However, we stuck with it and I thought Lauaki's first spell was top notch and he made a huge impact on the game.
Other positives for me were the return of Horne, who, apart from his kicking game (of which more later), looked like a big step up from Turner at 6. Towering effort from Fitz I thought too. And better use of Manu from the bench. Obst brought something to the party today too, in fact, kicking apart, I thought we matched them in the halves and that had been my major concern before the game. We need more minutes from Sam, without a doubt, as he looks a threat every time he gets the ball.
I thought the differences between the 2 sides were Crabtree, who I thought was great today and played a lot of minutes, and the kicking game. We kicked straight to the fullback or winger on their 20 for the vast majority of last tackle plays, whereas they forced at least 3 drop outs, created 3 tries and generally caused us to play deep in our own half at worst. I know Brough is probably the best executor of long kicks in the competition but it was a huge gap today and something we desperately need to work on.
But after all that, at least an improvement vs last week. I thought we were still very much in it at 14-10 tbh and with a couple of individual errors ironed out could have won the game. But we didn't. Must win next week. I'd be happy with this 17 on Friday.'"
Well said agree completley. Lets hope Horney can stay fit we need him.

| We were simply beaten by a better organised team. It was a typical Aussie performance, just squeezed us and squeezed us, mistake free, backed up by a superb kicking game. How many drop outs - at least 5, when you then add the errors (mistakes and penalties) we were making we were just starved of any ball and had nothing left in the tank for the 1/4. Brough was unplayable today - his kicking game was that good.
We had an opportunity before the h-t hooter when young Houghton took totally the wrong option, we also had that try chalked off which in retrospect was a game breaker.
We are chronically short of a strike cente, Turner isn't up to it and when you factor in our right side defence also conists of Tickle (very poor all day) and Sharp(who did make 2 bad defensive errors) it was no wonder thats where they went for us.
Horney had a decent game considering his absence. We looked far better in the halves and moved the ball well during our only 2 periods of good territorial possesion just before and after half time.
I thought it was a huge step up on last week and with the additions of Phelps and Long, the future looks a tad better.

| I thought Huddersfield started out well but then became very disappointing until we stepped it up a bit when they upped the tempo again. Radders took a big hit off Crabtree early and looked pretty shakey the rest of the game , Tickle and Manu were disappointing compared to last year's form ( probably can't cope with being rotated ) and I thought Turner , again , looks weak. Otherwise not too bad with Whiting apart from his two dropped bombs looking very good. Of course it was our poor kicking game , again , that let us down badly. Our last tackle plays show no organisation to the point where Manu and O'meley ended up kicking a couple of times and I reckon if our kickers actually aimed to find the opposition everytime they couldn't do a better job. I think if Luke Robinson had been playing we'd have been in more trouble. It was definitely a better performance but that isn't saying much!

| We did ok yesterday, never really looked like winning it but there were improvements on recent performances (not too hard to achieve). Games between us and Hudds are rarely scintillating affairs with both sides happy to see whose forwards come out on top.
Like many have mentioned the biggest difference between the sides was the kicking game, we kicked poorly 90% of the time, yet they kicked poorly 10% of the time. The fact our best attacking kick came from O'Meley tells it's own story on the kicking.
Plenty of times when attacking we took the wrong option, when we scored in the second half there was bags of room on our left side and we had extra men but we still passed to the right although we did score from that it was the wrong option at the time.

| Brough showed us exactly the reasons why he's international quality yesterday.
His kicking was perfection.
Our international game will be far better with him at 7, far better than Eastmond IMO!!

| One thing that struck me was how quickly Shudds moved up in defence (pushing the offside to the limit) whereas we consistently hung back waiting for the attacker. AGAIN.
If we can improve defensive line speed, stop giving other teams time to move, think and execute planned moves, we might stand a chance. We had no time to do much other than one out rugby (again) due to Hudds speed in defence, getting in our faces. When they didn't do that, we had time to pass the ball and looked half decent.

Been saying this all this season and a fair bit of last. People who moan about our attack have a point but it isn't the main reason for us losing lots of games. We let the opposition score too many. There are several reasons for this but the main one is the one you describe. Leeds played the same the other week as you describe Hudds. We should be able to play the same way and it's the weakest part of our game/coaching IMO.

I've noticed it for a number of years. I have no idea why nothing has changed with the change of personnel in most areas. Horney has been here since 1999 - maybe it's his idea?

| The big diff was the Huddersfield line speed left us almost at a standstill through each set we played thus forcing us into hasty shouts and knee jerk lateral movement.. their kicking was much better than ours
HOWEVER
I think Hame had a cracker and his best yet in black and white...
Fitz looked awesome
Manu was dangerous off the bench
Horne looked more confident as the game went on and will only get better
Obst looks a very good buy and will i am sure pay dividend.
Whiting continued to play his heart out

| But this is part of the basics of the game, the same as our support play and players pushing through on the attacking players shoulders, who is responsible for this?,Isn't it the coaches job to in still these disciplines in the players on the training pitch, have we improved in these areas over the last three years?
As for yesterday, you can't knock the effort of the players, but again was out coached, did you notice Brough was kicking on 3rd & 4th tackling on most sets, this meaning our two wingers were in our defensive line, leaving Brough to kick it either side of Whiting,so it mean't we had to bring the ball back 80 metres in those conditions, against a bigger pack which invarailably mean't we were kicking on the 5th tackle in our 40 with there wingers and full back set.
Couldn't he have seen this, changed the tackle in which we kicked or told the wingers to drop back??
All we did most of the match was to take the bal lout from our 20,don't know what the territorail stats are but they must have been horrendous.
