Quote: Big Dave T "I asked a player in the Peter Sharp era why we ran back inside at the markers a lot and he said it's the coaches idea to tire their big forwards out in the middle. It appears that mentality has been instilled in Agar.
I'd prefer to sling the ball about a bit to make them work laterally to tire them out, similar to what Wire did to us in patches.'"
I've heard that theory before, but unfortunately it seems to be blown apart by the fact that it's often us who tire first using this tactic. Far too often the square markers barely have to move and dominate the tackle quite easily, so I'd say that the resulting 'wrestle' tires our forwards out at least as much as theirs. Was possibly a potentially more fruitful tactic under Sharp, but with the increasingly slow ptb I think it offers almost nothing now.
Agree I'd sooner us make the ball do more work and have the opposition chasing about a bit.
