Correct. I'd normally be in favour of letting a coach take a crack with a side he's built up himself, but in this case Agar has simply not demonstrated the necessary authority, ruthlessness, technical ability or tactical nous to make me think that anything will be substantially different next season.
We may be slightly less poor as the playing roster should be stronger, but that's not going to be enough if the coaching stays at the level so far demonstrated.

Kingy has been dropped quite a few times during Agars time in charge IIRC.

Has he? He's had plenty of injuries but I don't remember him being dropped. He did play a few 21 games before coming back into the 1st team

Really? He didn't play in any of the games leading up to the final and I thought he was injured for much of the season. Maybe played in the derby the following week

I seem to recall him being dropped for a derby game as well, though that may have been by Sharp? Thacks and King have both been dropped by Agar in the past though.

| Agar stated after the last game of last season derby when we where embarrased in another derby! that changes had to be made and players had to go. So far he has done nothing, Sing went Retired, Dykes left retired, Carvell left for money. In my opinion has not got it in him to make big guttsy decisions but my biggest issue with Agar is the style of play he has us playing. We are in the bottom 3 attacking teams in the league and very predictable.
Whether people like if or not we have not been the same side since we lost Cooke, Carvell, Swain, Briscoe & Mcmenemy. We never replaced any of these players with players of the same calibre. (Before people say Berrrigan is , he's not in the same league as Swain and I think stats would back me up if you looked it up)
If the team of 2005 or 2006 teams played against the current team I reckon the current side would be on the end of a 40-50 point defeat. So in 3 or 4 years we have gone from been a team that was challenging the so called big 4 to a side that looks inempt in nearly all departments and struggling to finish in the top 8 and will most likely miss out and finish tenth.
I do agree we have had unprecedented problems with injuries over the last few seasons but our academy system is one of the best around with our juniors proving to be very good prospects. A good coach would improve these players along with bringing the best out of the senior players, under Agars stewardship how many players can you say have improved majorly! Most of our players have gone backwards!
I dont agree with the whole "its the boards fault" as I feel the main mistake they have made is appoint Agar who looks from the outside, comes across as a soft touch to the players. The board/shareholders saved the club less than ten years ago and have seen the business grow year on year and we are probably a comfortable top two club off the pitch. Which is why I believe we should be a top two club on the field.
So long as I have got hole in my a**e Agar will not lead us to two 2 and his signings for next season don't make me change my mind. Fitzgibbon has had his best years as has Long who has played in the most consistant side of the super league behind the best pack every year. I dont believe he is that good he never turned it on when his pack was beat which I know is rare that Saints pack gets beat but think back to the last two grand finals!!! Where was Long?
I do believe the board should make the decision now to get rid of Agar, Sharp and bring in a coach that will get the best out of the players that we have and hopefully get us defending hungrly like we used to and play rugby with a bit of flair.

The risk with that approach is that we waste yet another season. I know there is a risk attached to any option taken it just doesn't sit right with me that the option we appear to be going for is the cheap Rich Agar one.

| I know that he's dropped Thackray in the past, but I thought that that was because Thackray had a go at him in the way to/from Harlequins.
And you can't really say that he drops players often, this week he 'pledged' to drop underperforming 'big-names' but who did he drop? Hodgson and Maloney, two players that between them play under 15 minutes!
One good thing about Agar? He doesn't waste the clubs money by getting his hair cut.

| As I have stated before if Agar proves to be a quality coach I will apologise.
But we have to face facts Agar and Sharpe will both be here next season - the club will not pay them off (to much money).
I also believe if we finish higher than mid table extentions will be offered to both.

Shouldnt he be getting the current squad of players to play better rugby though as the current coach rather than hiding behind that as an arguement? What does he actually coach them on during the week?
