I think he is a good centre, but not for hull. We should be utilising our wingers as much as possible, and i don't think he provides enough ball to Calderwood for what i have seen this season so far.'"
...and by that trail of thought we should be getting rid of Yeaman too then.
Regarding G.Horne, well I personally rate the bloke. Fair enough he's not world class but he certainly doesn't let anybody down.
Why this thread is neccessary is beyond me.

| Is defo a squad player and I would give him another year, but once Raynor is back, for me Briscoe should go right centre, but Horney good cover now we have lost Byrne.

But one difference is that there wasn't a salary cap then.
I don't think many people think we need to get rid because he's poor, it's just a debatable point about whether or not we could use that part of our restricted funds more effectively.

3 games in, and 3 wins to add. This sort of thing isn't something we should be worries about at this stage surely.
It just seems to me that people don't understand what squad means. They have 19 players in mind that appeal to them and the rest can go.
Our star signing has not and may not arrive, we've just had a player ruled out for the season and yet there doesnt seem to be panic anywhere. Thats testiment to the squad we've got and the reason the G.Hornes, Tommy Lees & Craig Halls are worth every penny.

Exactly.
No club can have in unlimited number of big earners, so the ones on teh modest salaries are a necessity. If those who are squad fillers, on less than the big names, wouldn't you prefer it if they still put in the same level of effort and endevour whilst not looking out of place.
IF, G Horne was released his salary would not attract the star name so many crave. The trade off is having 2 decent players or 1 star player. After last seasons injury nightmare I think its safety in numbers.

As I've said, I'm not bothered either way about Horne ATM, I'm not saying get rid. My point is about the length of contract, which is what the original article is about. With new players coming through I don't personally think Horne justifies a longer term deal, because if the youngsters coming through progress as they look like they can he'll be surplus to requirements, possibly by the end of next season.
The money he's on won't be the kind of amount we could attract a big name with, almost certainly. I'm just saying that we need that kind of 'wiggle room' so that we don't put ourselves in a position where we have to shed a younger player who may have become the better player because we have a steay player with years left to run.
The other thing is that he happens to play in the positions where we actually are well stocked with numbers. We are already carrying perhaps 1 or 2 too many, so that's another reason I wouldn't see the wisdom in giving him more than a year extension.

Not really. Yeaman is a much better centre than G.Horne. He is a much better runner of the ball, I would say a faster player too and when he passes he is better at that too.
We have too many players who "won't let us down." Its all fine and dandy at the moment as we are winning games. But its the teams who have players who can win games with great attack that will get to finals. Look at the games against Wakey, Leigh and Saints from the 2005 cup run. The run of games where we tanked Leeds at Headingley and were superb at Saints and won. Also look at our attacking play at Bradford and against Wakey in last years cup run. We attacked fantastically in those games and got to finals

...and G.Horne was one of our better players last season so why are we discussing him and not others?
I'll go out on a limb and say I personally think G.Horne has the more flair about him as we saw with the pass that put Calderwood in for his first try.
Yeaman has the potential I feel to be the better player but is currently on par with Horne.
Either way since he was threatened with the Doncaster move G.Horne in whatever position he has been played has stood out positively more than negative.
Overall he is currently deserving of that right Centre spot. He's going nowhere yet so wether he stays or not is something that is a pointless discussion right now.

The game away at Leeds where we tanked them, horne was in the back row and produced some fantastic offloads

He was in the HDM saying it was a big season for him, hence the discussion. We have discussed numerous player on here in the last few weeks.

| All of this he is better than he is is so boring to be honest ....
The cold truth of the fact is that during the latter part of last season G Horne was better than nearly all of the squad so lets not forget that!! and in the opening three games he has recieved hardly any quality ball and done absolutely nothing wrong yet!
remember that these boys read this forum too guys!!

And it's easier to look good in a squad performing well. Graeme stood out in an underperforming team, behind a pack that was going backwards!
