OLD FAITHFUL PAL OF MINE: |
|
| Quote: ChrisH "Know what you're saying but he's part of the past , part of our unsuccessful last 7 years and he's not going to get better just older and slower. We can't do it because contracts don't allow it and anyway we can't attract anyone better but in an ideal world we should.'"
He was also part of the Challenge Cup winning team and Grand final team so in that case should stay??

| Quote: ChrisH "Absolutely , the one and the same. When do you propose we get rid? Just after he can't do that? I think just before is a better idea. It's like bringing on subs just after the player coming off has missed a tackle. Anyone can see that but the skill in coaching is doing it just before it happens. Good teams have consistently timed their retention and disposals well and without sentiment. The fact that Horne has had something of a renaissance this year is as much to do with the poor standards around him as it is his recovery from injuries. Whiting does blow my argument because I'd treat him as an exception and build the team around him. Having said that he's got more years left in him than Horne anyway. Horne has been a loyal servant for us as has Yeaman and they are FC through and through but they are not going to be the basis of progression over the next few years. There's little we can do about it though because they and others who are average or old have contracts and it's increasingly unlikely that we will be able to attract anything different. So we can't draw lines and make any wholesale changes to the squad and have to , again , make the token gesture of changing the figurehead. And so it goes on until , hopefully , we just happen to get lucky and hit on a generation of local Hull lads that just happen to provide a spread of forwards , halves and backs and just happen to be the best of their generation who all want to play for Hull. When was the last time that happened? Maybe having local coaches is the missing ingredient??'"
Horne was in great form before he got injured, possibly the best of his career in many aspects. He's 4 years younger than lee briers (who has won 3 challenge cups and been to one grand final, probably going to another, since he was horne's age), only 1 year older than danny brough and younger than kevin sinfield.
Yes he picks up injuries but I doubt he's on a large whack at this stage of his career and offers a far better back up in the halves or full back than we could likely get anywhere else for the same money. I'd certainly rather have him in the halves than either miller or holdsworth TBH and either will do well to ever be as good as horne has been

Should any of them been out there???

Quite. Talk of getting rid of Horne is just crazy. When the review of what went wrong this season and who is responsible has taken place, Richard Horne will be at the bottom of the list.

I'd love to see the club get shot of Yeaman, Crookes, Johnson, Holdsworth but we'd struggle to find takers.'"
Wakey would have Johnson back if they had the money plus Holdsworth as we need a half back. Infact we can only afford 15 players for next season.
Could you loan them two and pay their wages for a season?

| Quote: Jake the Peg "Because he's too small to be effective at prop. Couldn't even get a game at wakefield'"
Wrong. He was in the 17 that played the last 7 games of the season unbeaten at Wakey and played in the play off defeat against Leeds last season where we got narrowly beaten.
Johnson was popular with Wakey fans because he ran the ball in hard although you are correct he is not a prop as he's not big enough he is a second row.

What about the first 20 games?

| Holdworth is a good player but, he has been hugely inconsistent this year and that has had a big effect on us. Could see him going if we could get a replacement.
Yeaman I don't want to see leave as I'm a huge fan but, he has had his worst ever season and offers absolutely nothing in attack. Arundel has to be in front of him now surely.
McDonnell could go so that Shaul keeps his spot but then it leaves us short of cover.
Tbh I don't see wholesale changes as I don't see who we could sign as replacements. Unless AP is going pay some fees!

Hope he saves the money,to recruit a proven Head Coach instead.

| I've been a fan of DJ since he was at Salford, but he has been inconsistent at Hull. Our attack is one of the worst in the league and DJ was expected to help change that, but if the players around him are useless like they are. They can't even offer themselves as options/runners. Then what can DJ do on his own?

| Quote: Jake the Peg "What about the first 20 games?'"
From memory that last season with Wakefield Trinity he played quite a few games up until a poor performance against Wigan then was dropped and didn't play for 7 or 8 games but then played a key part in the last 7 games where we were unbeaten. He played 47 games for Wakey in 2 seasons. He is not a prop though IMHO although Wakey wanted to keep him but as usual the bigger club offers more money chews them up for one season and spits them out as substandard. He'd be better sticking with Wakey like Kirmond!

No , he's second rate , at least he's lower half of the table rate and will never be anything better than that. he will end up dropping a division before he reaches his late 20's. Another honest , grafter who won't let you down but just not likely to be a winner without some exceptional quality around him.

| Dj has had how many different hb partners this season? Miller came in half way through, and we havent had a pack big enough or strong enough to lay a platform for the half backs.
Getting bigger forwards to shatter defences , like feka and paea and a full pre season for miller nd dj to work together and we will see the best put of the half backs. Yeamo hashad his time, offers nothing in attack and has cost us in defence many many times whn he flies out the line. Cant get rid of horney and johnson is second rower

Yeamo will get plenty of game time next season if his mate Radders is picking the team.
