| Quote: ccs "Hull's penalty count is currently 0.7 penalties per game higher than the average. Hardly earth shattering.
Not much worse than Wakefield, for example, who also have a higher than average penalty count.'"
Exactly.

| Have a look at Mark Percival's tackle on , I think , Ryan Hampshire. It's at 21.37 on the Beeb's Super League show. There was no penalty on the field. There was a tackle by Percival referred by the match review panel , ON 483/17 on the RFL Disciplinary section although that one shows the victim to be Higson and looks to be later than the incident I'm referring to and it implies a penalty was given. There was no charge for the one referred although it was accepted that the player made contact with the jaw and a penalty was sufficient. The referee and linesmen must have missed the first one but what's the excuse for the match review panel? It was a swinging arm which made contact with the head. Percival scored a try and made another possibly during a time when he should have been in the bin or , using the Watts case logic , he should have been red carded. Looks to me like the only difference is that Hampshire wasn't injured and didn't make a fuss but Percival looks to have had two incidents in one game and received no charge and only one penalty. His disciplinary record and that of Saints are effectively unaffected. Yes we've got to be smarter but under this regime it's a lottery.

| We are a very aggressive, physical team, and when you tread the line like that you are always going to concede a fair amount of penalties. It comes with the territory. I dont have stats to back it up but I'm pretty sure sucessful teams of the past have never conceded the fewest penalties. If we had the choice between conceding less penalties and being the most aggressive, intimidating team in the league I would choose the latter, every time. Maybe if the likes of Wire and Saints were a bit more willing to get their hands dirty they might be a bit further up the table. What I dont want to see however is players stepping over the line like Manu last week, thats indefensible.

Although this is going back a few year, circa 2000-2003 ish, When Mal Reilly was coach of Huddersfield, he drilled the players into making as few errors as possible. Such was Mal's standing in the game (and that his was still a fairly handy lad) The Hudds players rarely threw the ball about in fear of getting on Reilly's bad side.
Hudds finished the season with the fewest handling errors and bottom of the league!.
Similar situation.

Thats a decent results for us given that he was due to miss at least one and could have been jet lagged for the other

With a bit of luck should only miss the Widnes game but he has gone to Australia so depending on when he comes back could still be a bit jet lagged.

According to the club site he was withdrawn from the Tonga squad, and attended the hearing at Leeds today, so has obviously not travelled abroad.

| Talking about discipline, I was talking to the master of it last Friday on Withernsea promenade.
No other than Mr Mick Crane, working for Halls doing some sea defence work on the beach.
Still puffing away on the fags, still the man.
