Tough times for Hull FC at the moment (not for the first time in the last 45 years of supporting them) but rugby league doesn't define my life. Friday afternoon aside I've had a great weekend so far.

| Quote: Chris71 "So Savelio was dropped based on performance levels so far according to rlSmithrl
Seems mind blowing to me that he drops Savelio who has been one of the better performers (even after coming straight back in from injury) to bring back Lane who is & was dreadful and has been for a long while now. I get that he is trying to mix things up to see who is up to the task but think it’s been clear the majority ain’t going to change anytime soon.
Think it’s time to he gave Staveley an opportunity.
There are players still getting played that should never wear the shirt again and players sat on the sidelines that at the very least give their all when they do play.
If Smith is trying to get a reaction then why not drop the lazy b@5tard5 instead and play the players that at least play like they give a 5h!t'"
On that basis then Tuimavave should be dropped for the Leeds match but will he?
Savellio will be back and he will drop Lane hopefully from a great height to wake him up

You only have to look at what Sneyd is producing these days.'"
Sneyds form is far more to do with the players he has around him and the style of play and nothing to do with so called pressure of playing for Hull FC

On that basis what do you think Lovodua was told to do by Smith for several weeks before the penny dropped,or Lane when he came back this weekend.
Also from your argument we wont see Tuimavave next week or any of the forward pack.
I agree with Dave K it was a bad call unless Savellio has said something.
Also Smith now makes himself look daft after giving his reasons for leaving Savellio out when he had clearly dropped him

I think its glaringly obvious that the whole 17 arent doing what is asked of them. Who knows what is said or what Smith is trying to achieve.
I wasnt a huge fan of appointing Smith but my arguement here is that ive seen nothing from any of them to suggest they are exempt from being dropped. As for Carlos ill leave my unpopular opinion of him off here as I cant be bothered with that debate.
Unfortunatley for us we havent the squad to drop all 17 players. The funny thing in sport is if we had won the games proceeding these decisions nobody raises an eyebrow.

| Could it be that whilst savelio is our best forward, a bad performance by his standards is still far better than what the rest of the plodders offer, so whilst it may look good to us, still not good enough to Smith, as he knows what he's capable of

Agreed, any player that folds or can’t deal with pressure or expectation to perform is in the wrong job and not the type of player any club would want.
The problem we have is we have no leaders within the playing group at all and haven’t really since Ellis retired.
You only have to look at Sneyd in 2016 when he played in a team with players like Ellis, Pritchard, Mini & Sika.
A lot of people bagged Pritchard but his no nonsense approach within the team along with the likes of Ellis, Mini & Sika drive that squad to the success at Wembley on 16. Then after he’s gone it was followed up with Ellis, Mini & Sika still driving the team on. I really do believe it was that group of players that were the biggest reason we won the cups rather than the coaching team at the time.
Our lack of leaders in the playing squad is a contributing factor to why we throw the towel in as it’s not a team just a group of individuals.

The problem lis deep within the club and fans mentality.
They seem to demand instant success and don’t appear to give players time to bed into the club.
The fans are fickle and soon get on the back of players, take Milky for example and Seymour.
Given the clubs dire financial situation coupled with latest performances and where they sit in the table it will be difficult to attract players of a decent standard to the West Hull based club.
Quality players want to play for successful clubs, and clubs with financial security and unfortunately Hull FC don’t fit into that bracket.

Depends on what criteria I guess. Last year you won 4 of your first 8 games (and 6 from your first 10), this year 5 from first 8 so yes it's "progress". Obviously on other criteria like homegrown production line, reserves, stadium improvements etc it's still chat and plans as we agreed earlier. The stories you're choosing to attach to it are unequivocally buoyant, and boosted by the fixation on our demise, but the actual tangibles are broadly the same.

No bias here I call it as I see it.
Your mid table at best, a position you held 2 years ago. You will be in the mix but I cant say I am 100 percent you will finish in the 6. Currentley I have Wigan, Wire,Cats and Saints better then you. Youll be battling the other places out with Salford, Huddersfield and Leeds.
Other then the purchase of your stadium I dont see alot of other improvements off the field other then your BOD saying they plan to do XYZ. I hope it comes off for you as any club improving is only good for the sport.
Your academy situation is still very poor and your crowds are roughly the same barring when tickets are practically given away.
However that said I can see why they is optimism, your first team is competitve and you have managed to create extra revenue streams. Given with the board you have assembled you could achieve some great things but this is rugby league and its very rare what owners say they are going to do is actually followed up.
Your right to be very optimistic but I definetley feel FCs decline is making KR fans feel they are further down the road then they actually are.

| Just to manage expectations, the club can’t get rid of twenty players and hope to replace them at the end of the season so I think unfortunately it’s inevitable that some will be retained ? Unpopular opinion but Fash and Cator are just not big enough, no matter how enthusiastic they are, like Donaldson at Leeds. Lane should be shipped off to Cornwall or further if that’s possible ! Shaul & Taylor finished and injury prone, what’s the betting at least one of them gets a year contract ?
Someone told me after the game that Danny Houghton wife is ill and that’s why he didn’t play. No idea if any truth in it.
Re Tony Smith, a Rovers fan told me (to be fair he’s quite well connected) that he doesn’t like anyone to question him or his methods, could explain why Savelio was missing ? I know he can’t kick off on Sky Sports but to me he just doesn’t seem to show any emotion (never has not just with us) I like the guy and his pedigree is fantastic but I just don’t know what he can do with this bunch of muppets !

Your academy has had a lot of success in the past. Unfortunately for you the pick of the reasonably recent bunch seem to have been let go. I cannot identify any recent graduates that are in your squad that could be classed as good quality, consistent and established SL players. There is no one that I would want in our squad. There seems little point in having a successful academy if the process does not improve your squad. Please don’t quote Houghton, Shaul or even those of an older vintage. I could quote Taylor. It’s the here and now that is important. Fash is average at best and only has enthusiasm in his favour. I know he received the awards last year but as acknowledged by many FC fans that just emphasised how poor the rest were. Cator from our academy has similar limitations. The Hull FC Academy is often trumpeted in these forums but recently there has been little evidence of its benefits to you.

| @pmarrow, the quote function won’t work for me at the moment but I think you make some fair and good points.
It’s a welcome relief to have a decent team performing at a decent level. And to have hopefully jettisoned some baggage (I’ll leave that vague and brief or it’ll turn into a 5000 word rant). But these last few years I feel like… I dunno, missing out on the play-offs would be a little disappointing this year but making them is kinda depressing too. It’s just such a constipated competition. Maybe Wire will add a tiny bit of variety. But yeah, I’ll take whatever mercies, large or small, that are on offer.
