| Quote: weaver93 "The foundations of any sporting team, is ambition, motivation, desire and professionalism.
The whole organisation is lacking in all of these 4 key areas. This stems from the club's hierarchy, we have a group of individuals, who are not physically & mentally prepared to play in SL at an acceptable level.
This is due to the owner, appointing inexperienced backroom staff, and not replacing personnel who leave.
The Team Manager, who I believe is no longer coaching the team, his assistants are unable to improve the team's weaknesses, they should be sacked, and replaced immediately.
Until the owner changes his policy or departs. Nothing will improve...
Regardless of a change in Coach or player recruitment..'"
Agree with the above.
The entire club, from top to bottom, is rotting away with every passing week. There isn't a single individual, whatever area of the club they are working in, who is making a meaningful contribution to altering the malaise which is enveloping every single aspect of how the club operates, although I would excuse the young players as it's not their job to impose standards on an organization, that responsibility rests with other, far more experienced individuals.
We could sack Smith today (heaven knows who would then be tasked with the role) but I doubt it would make any significant difference, maybe a temporary bump of energy as often happens post coach sacking, but it won't be long before all these faults resurface.
Tony Smith is one of the problems we have, no doubt of that, he has lost his way so badly I don't think he even knows which way he is standing anymore, but sacking him will not magically solve our many issues, they are too deeply embedded for it to be that simple a solution.
Having said that, his time is up, surely. We are not seeing even the most basic of reactions to these repeated weekly hammerings, yesterday was the same mistakes and faults repeated again and again. Whatever his plan is, short-term or long, it simply isn't working. Someone has to stand up and take responsibility for this situation and as the senior people at the club that means Pearson or Smith.

| Would prefer Tony to step down and let his brother Brian come back until the end of the season.
Even if he’s been out of the game a while, his motivational skills alone would get more of a tune out of this squad than we are currently seeing.

| If, as some people have said, that every aspect of the club is rotten then getting rid of Smith, who acknowledges this and is going deep to address it, is not going to help. His efforts have not yet come to fruition and I get as frustrated as the next man. But someone else will have the same job to do so. Keep Smith. defense is the playing problem. we now have some attack- a mammoth 4 tries on Saturday. glass half full - can see some green shoots of small recovery but feel like a criminal for trying to be positive. Moaning whilst default solves nothing, smith is at the coalface so he has a free hit this season to produce improvement

Couldn't agree more with this, i am sick and tired of seeing brainless posts calling for Smith to go.... hes by far and away the most experienced and arguably best coach in SL, His record speaks for itself. The harsh reality is we have for the most part a championship level team and are about where we should be in the league given how little we have invested in new players and given what level of players have left in the past 2-3 seasons... Sneyd, Connor, Satae, Mau, Swift to be replaced by hookers in half back rolls that couldn't get in a rock bottom Wakefield team or wingers that struggled to get regular game time at Bradford. We have spent nowhere near enough as recent reports have highlighted. The hope would be that after this Covid loan is paid off we can then spend at top level of the cap and bring in 2-3 marquee level signings, now i know the argument for that will be who will come to Hull ATM but look at Wakey signing the likes of Tom Johnstone...If the money is there and players believe in the project to turn the club around they will come i am telling you! How do you think Rovers started, they wasn't exactly an attractive prospect before TS took over and all of a sudden brought in the likes of SKD, Ryan Hall etc etc, blooded young players such as Mikey Lewis and if we can somewhat copy that with our own group of young players such as Charles, Moy, Armstrong etc with 2-3 top level SL/NRL players who are leaders we can start to see an upturn in fortunes, i appreciate patience is wearing thin however if you are being realistic and want to see this project to success we need to give TS at least 2-3 recruitment cycles to fix this rotten period in our history. Rant over lol

| Very revealing comment from Tex Hoy's father...
" Let's see how many out of contract players resign, if the out of date, no structure, no systems, bloke playing mind games, with the players, club, and media is still there "

| Just read Smiths latest in the HDM.
"We are going to start really digging in"
Good to admit that you haven't been. That bits on you.
"Guys are training harder then they ever have"
Jake Clifford had a thing to say on how hard we train.
If there had been some green shoots that Tony could do a job, I'd have some patience.
There isn't any and my patience has gone.
Off you pop.

| This is now the fourth example I have seen in as many weeks, of players or players relatives criticising the manner of how players have been coached under Tony Smith. All of which have followed similar trends, ie no game plan, no communication with players, mind games with players over their future etc
Some would argue the players are fabricating a narrative to deflect the blame for our current position, but the fact that it has now came from several sources, along with the dire stuff we have seen so far this season makes me believe they are genuine concerns.
Make no mistake, the players have to carry their proportion of the blame for our current state, yes we are under cap, and yes it is a weak team. But it is the absolute basics we are getting wrong week in week out.
However, in their defence, it is clear to see their is a fundamental lack of cohesion with the side, very little structure in attack, and absolutely non existent in defence since Tony came in last year. That ultimately lies with the Head Coach.
Is anybody currently, having read Tony's weekly ramblings of nonsense to Hull Live, confident that he is the man that could potentially turn this round?

| The problem is, players talk. Any one looking to sign for Hull in the future is first going to speak to someone who is playing at the club or was there recently. So if there’s a problem with the Coach, then new players may be hesitant to join.
On the flip side, it could be the players who are at fault.
Probably a bit of both. However, good Coaches earn respect, if they lose the dressing room there’s normally only one outcome. Players are harder to move on.
What we definitely need is a new senior leadership group. As others have mentioned it’s like when we signed Gaz or Rovers signing SKD, that help change the player attitude.

For me, this is one of the biggest issues, our 2005 win was when we had the leadership of Swain and Kearney, 2016-17 Ellis, Michello, Manu, Pritchard.
Recruitment was all wrong this season, if our budget was limited, we should have signed fewer players on higher wages, someone like Tariq Sims would have been perfect, no nonsense, hard hitting second rower

Another damning article and one that links directly to coaching. Most sin bins (ligi Sao having more bins than all of st Helens, part time London and hudds), most penalties and our worst defensive start to super league ever. That's not ability, that's just a bad attitude and bad coaching.

I hear from one current player that for the last 2 seasons he has not enjoyed his rugby under Smith either.
Smith is delusional if he thinks he can turn this around. Too many fan's patience will have worn out by then and will walk.
The stats are damning the testaments from a former player and now parent are also damning.
Whatever Smith's remit is clearly recruitment and product are not part of it.
Bored of his every HDM interview too.

| If how he comes across with the media is how he is as a coach too, I'd find him difficult to work under, never gives a straight answer, comes across shifty and just waffles a lot

| So let me get this straight - because players/ex-players/their relatives are pointing fingers, we believe them?
The same players who have produced countless shocking, low effort, zero passion performances under multiple coaches, and who on match day seem incapable of even the simple RL skills like passing, catching, and tackling?
