| Quote tommyfromhull="tommyfromhull"Just because things aren’t documented doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. You don’t go from being fit with one club one season to getting injured the next season with another team just because they don’t have a comparable physio team. Recovery, maybe, but actual injuries are hard to avoid.
Yes we’re lacking in the back room staff, but I still stand by the fact we’ve been very unlucky with injuries. 16/17 (not to dwell) we didn’t have many significant injuries. Saints across their recent success didn’t have huge amount of injuries.
The bigger issue is the quality of our squad. When we have injuries we don’t have quality to back it up. Top teams do.'"
I’d say a big factor is the weak mental strength that seems to be ingrained in the fabric of the team when it comes to adversity. Most teams find it galvanises them and they complete much harder, whereas we just crumble and fold at the slightest excuse.
What’s more concerning for me about Saturdays result and performance was it was the one game the squad and Coach had to get right and be up for the battle. We saw from the performance both on the field and by Grix as the stand in HC that we just weren’t anywhere near in any aspect be it effort, desire, pride or intelligence. Places for next season should not be taken for granted by the likes of Lane, Fash & Sao for example.
Myler and Cartwright have one hell of a job on their hands come pre season.

I was talking about injuries and squad depth, but performance mentality use you’re spot on. We’re mentally weak as and have been for a long time. That all comes from the top.
‘Culture’ has been talked about a lot and we’re way off. Asiata will help, as will the other experienced blokes we’re bringing in, but the main driver will be Cartwright. By all accounts he’s a no nonsense bloke and it’s exactly what we’ve been crying out for for decades.

| Good to see Grix calling out Balmforth again, but nothing negative about Sao.

He was commenting on his and Sao’s bans and said he didn’t have any complaints. Said Denive’s effort was lazy, sloppy and frustrated - which isn’t wrong. Said Sao’s was ‘marginal’.

And from where I was sitting, he's probably right.

Did he call out Fash when he was binned the other week?
Grix should treat players equally .... imo.

IMO.
Mental strength is collectively cultivated during pre-season, the likes of Bellamy & Maguire are renowned for their torturous pre- seasons, this creates determination , teamwork, motivation etc.
We didnt have this type of pre season, because simply, we didnt have the necessary support staff.
hopefully this will now change

I agree to an extent but don't think its because we simply didn't have the support staff, think its been a long standing issue even under Radford, then in a laid back weak inexperienced Coach in Hodgson followed by a Coach who seemed to have lost interest and desire and again too laid back.
There has simply being no accountability since the end of 2018 from top to bottom and by the sounds of it, very much sulky attitudes if anyone got told judging by Aydins comments in the HDM today, which just confirms what most of have said for long enough.
It's all been just far too easy and a comfortable environment without consequences or accountability almost as though failure is acceptable. With Cartwright incoming we will hopefully see seismic changes if he is the no nonsense type of guy/Coach he appears & reported to be.
