Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?:

Quote: UllFC "another poor signing by Gentle
None of these players are in the 17 when everyone is fit. You can't expect top rate signings (should they exist) to simply cover for the 1st team.

The youth system is for developing potential stars for the future, but you still need reliable squad players who won't look out of place when picked.

Crookes and Arundel have hardly played due to a combination of injury and the breakthrough of Crooks and Lineham.

Arundel actually was actually looking pretty good up until his injury. Think he could be a good signing.

Crookes needs more game time before being judged. Looked completely gash in the game where he replaced Briscoe but has looked a lot better since coming in for Lineham.

these players were hyped up by the club over the Winter as being the ones that would fire us up in to the Top4 though, which is part of the problem. We were told the club was clearing out the deadwood and replacing with better, but in reality the players we've brought in are the same standard. The club creates a lot of hype and expectancy, and then the players aren't good enough to deliver.

No club is going to go to press saying that they've bought some more average players.
The "hype" is based on the belief that new signings will have a positive impact.

This'll do me................

Of course, the club is a business and has to sell tickets, but there's a big difference between announcing a signing positvely and going overboard with the all the 'ambitious HullFC signal their top4 ambitions by signing highly rated, international Joe Arundel' stuff we saw last winter. It creates unecessary pressure and expectations.

in fairness, did those headlines come from the club, or from the wider media?

It isn't helped by people clearly misunderstanding what the club puts out or just plain listening to voices in their heads.

Arundel is injury prone and looks like he'll struggle to ever put together a decent run of games without picking an injury up

He showed some potential at Cas, and was worth a gamble as a signing. But the 4 year deal we gave him was absolute madness.

Crookes i feel is a good player. He has the speed, strength and can catch quite well..

His only problem is he's quite small.

I Feel he runs well with the ball, always runs hard and breaks few tackles. It's easy to judge him on a bad day but as previous posters have said. He ain't played many games and needs to play regulary before we see what he can do.

This. Very pleased with how Arundel was coming along before his unfortunate hand injury, defending well and scoring tries.

Not made proper judgement on Crookes yet. Briscoe's are big boots to fill, but he needs consistent game time to show his game. I would say its a tad unfair to give proper judgement with the little game time he has had.

Twitter - @MaddyHFC:

Harsh on Crookes who did ok. Hard to judge him considering he hasn't had a run of games. Crooks was far worse at Wembley. Worst game I've ever seen him play.

agree, think people are looking for some one to blame, jason made one mistake, as did all the team, some loads, he saved ben from gifting wigan a try, kids got pace, runs very hard, he'll come good. slating players all the time does nothing, we say we have the best supporters, well some on here are pathetic, if its not westerman its jason, westerman was top tackler, who tackled his heart out, were getting to finals, 4 in 8 years, were getting their

We really haven't seen enough of him to judge him yet. Lets see what he's like once he gets a run of games.
