Both times we have played Wigan this year we have had massive injuries. Although our record against yourselves is poor, it is impossible to compete with a side as good as yours when we are down to playing our 5th/6th choice winger/centre (Lineham) and by the end of the game have 3 subs who are injured and can't take part.

we are bringing in at least 6 new players for next season, to add to the likes of Watts and Pitts who we have bought mid-season, we will be a completely different team next year. Our owner has also stated that he intends to invest in our sports science/backroom staff to at least try and reduce the number of injuries we pick up.

Hull have been a big club in every sense but actually investing money in the future since the merger with gateshead. pearson knows it will be a long haul to get us to where we should be but seems adamant he will do it and his track record in sport is good

Watching the game back, one positive I did notice is that we were winning the wrestle a lot in our defence. We really made good efforts at turning their players on their backs. Or maybe just me trying to draw blood out of a stone

To this 'johnny come lately' above, Saints finished top in 2005 but Bradford won the Grand Final, hence the Bulls were Champions.

Hull FC merely won a cup competition. (not at Wembley,may I add)


The last side from Hull to crowned Champions were Hull Kingston Rovers. And they are the only RL side from Hull to have won at Wembley.

We were very poor no question but there was plenty of effort and fight out there. The problem was we simply had too many players injured, too many patched up and then to lose another three during the game killed us.

Fortunately Wigan were not at their imperious best.

What difference does the venue make? We still won the Cup and what a memorable day it was.

The two trophy wins for Rovers you mention were both more than a generation ago. Even Brucie was only in his 50s.

It could easily be another decade or two before you win another major trophy.
