| Quote *1865*="*1865*"Nobody knows how much any players on, but you can get a fair idea on a few. It's not difficult to imagine the likes of McDonnell, Miller & Rankin being on 6-figure salaries, same with Ellis & Paea. Generally, British players are a lot harder to judge, and I doubt the likes of Pitts and Arundel are on vast amounts but either of them being on £50k+ does not represent value for money IMO.'"
Miller and mcdonnell on £120k+ each. I was told rankin is on around £80k, pitts £70k and arundell on some stupid contract that goes up every year of his contract and leaves him on over £100k

If that's the case, Rankin needs a new agent.

3 of our best new players this season signed from the previous regime
Paea,Feka,Thompson.
The biggest disappointment is Arundel, who since his arrival has never been able to tackle.
I also think McDonnell was a stand out performer last season. It was obvious that Radford wanted Shaul as the number one even though he is far from the finished article.I don't know what is happening within the club regarding McDonnell but I think he has been unlucky if he is being forced out of the club.

| .... well, I don't remember McDonnell being a stand out player last season - good at times, but I would pick Shaul every time, despite his lack of experience.
If he's as good as people say he is, then he'll have no problem getting another contract.
If his injury was as bad as some believe, then that's another story.

McDonnell was fantastic for us last season.
I don't mind admitting I was one of his biggest doubters when he signed, but I'll admit, he's proved me wrong.
Shaul is beginning to prove himself but he's a long way to go before he's the finished article.
McDonnell is already there for me. Sadly, his injury appears to have given Hull FC an opportunity, if I'm reading this right, which is very disappointing.

| Do you think the way McDonnell seems to be being treat and if other players contracts are terminated will affect future retention and recruitment. Will it make a player think twice about joining up?
Personally quite happy about the McDonnell situation, what goes around and all that.

Doubt it. You binned off Cockayne, Taulapapa, Maki, Panui, Tuimavave, Paterson, Netherton, Cooke, Mason, Ward, Gannon, James Webster, Fozzard, Ratu, Crossman, Taylor, Green, Watts and Wheeldon before their contracts had expired, and it's not stopped you attracting luminaries like Ade Gardner. Oh, I see what you mean.

Always rely on you for a sensible response, nothing if not consistent.

I'd say only Taulapapa (ironically, given who we got in his stead) was anything like equivalent - if the rumour that you've terminated his contract on a technicality were accurate.
Feel a bit for the lad. I think Rovers fans were a bit harsh on him for basically taking a better deal to work with a family friend. And he generally put in entirely competent performances for both clubs.

Your honourable friend came a--stirring that we'd be unable to attract players in future because of a player's contract being cut short. Simply pointing out that Rovers have terrific form in the early cancellation of deals for the benefit of the club, not the player.

[uIf[/u you've exercised the 'Tupou clause', or similar, then it will hit your (Hull's) reputation a bit. Just as messing Taulapapa about hurt Rovers. As long as you're not doing it routinely, it won't be a huge issue in fairness and might even be worth it.
All this is based on a rumour/speculation that you've cancelled his registration [iand[/i contract unilaterally. Obviously, if it is agreed pay-off or transfer, then that'd be different.
But [uif[/u he were sacked, effectively for getting a bad, but not entirely unusual, injury 'in the line of duty' and possibly being on too generous a deal that... well, actually it'd be a bit stupid, if nowt else. Assuming he's fit or is going to be at some point in the not too distant, he's not a bad player and can play wing or fullback. Plus he's only got a few months left now anyway, so 'just' de-registering if he is going to be out for a while wouldn't cost all that much more. If you hadn't or weren't signing the likes of Colbon, Carvell and possibly Sa I'd maybe put it down to skint. This'd just look tight. Sounds unlikely, now I think on it.
