I can't speak for anyone else, but my definition of a dirty player isn't based on whether he plays for us or not.

If he cleans up his game, fair enough. If not, I'll still be calling him a cheap shot merchant.

No doubt he knows that he isnt a popular signing (me included), so he would be a fool if he didnt knuckle down and prove us all wrong.

I am happier that the deal is just to the end of the season. Ryan will know that he has to play well or his SL career is over, so hopefully this should prove good motivation.

Those people who are "disappointed" should maybe suggest WHO we should sign at this stage in a season (or do they want the club to just do nothing ???)

Those saying that he's a penalty machine are being a little harsh on him. He's given away 8 penalties in 17 matches, which is less than 7 of Hull's squad and the same as Willie Manu and Tony Martin.

This is a bit of a stop-gap signing and let's accept it at that. We have issues in our backs with Sharp and Martin out for the season, Russell inexperienced and could be recalled at any time, and Horne is struggling (according to some reports).

McGoldrick brings experience and commitment to the squad, as well as good cover for our various issues at the moment.

He isn't a player that I would like to sign long-term as I don't think he's a player that will help our top 4 push, but we haven't signed him long term so that's okay. And if he gets an extension that would mean that he has earned it with his performances, and that again is okay.

Replace disappointed with gutted,and I make no apology for it.

The positive I see in this move also comes with a couple of negatives.
He is a player that likes to get into the opposition faces and wind them up. Something we don't have at the minute. I think we do need to be a lot more ruthless and aggressive, however, it needs to remain in the laws of the game.
His aggressive nature gives away too many penalties, and while he enjoys winding people up, he is also very easy to wind up himself.
I'm glad it's only a short term deal, however if it does lead to an extra year I won't be too disappointed as it can only mean he has earned his right for a longer contract.

Each to their own, but it's not like it's a first for any club to sign a player with a reputation.

Tim Street, Brad Hepi, Craig Greenhill, etc all came with poor reputations.

Rob Wilson was a dirty sod, no one seemed to mind when he was in a black and White shirt.

As has been pointed out, his penalty to games ratio is this season is ok. I'll go back to an earlier comment of us not having a mean streak. We give away so many soft penalties (poor ruck play/offside) that exchanging one of those for one which puts some doubt into the opposition I have no problem with, providing it's not the norm.
