| Quote Gi4nts="Gi4nts"The saddest thing about it all is that Mcnamara feels we don't have a single English standoff so we go back to the dark old days of playing a backrow forward there ala Farrell, Sculthorpe ect.
Sinfield is a decent player but he aint an international standoff and doesnt have the speed off the mark for such a position, would rather see Chase there.
Wellham and Yeoman should be centres based on form.'"
I think Widdop, Chase and Lomax are all exciting stand off's and will be great options there for years to come. I think the absence of an organisational scrum half is scary. Why aren't we producing them? Is it over emphasis on athleticism and the fact that most players are the shape of 2nd rowers now? Or is it tactical reasons? I know that we've killed off the ball playing loose forwards because the dour tactic of playing a battering ram at 13.
I think the only times we've beat Australia in the past, it's because we've had more exciting ball players. This will never happen again if we keep trying to unsuccessfully copy the NRL. I think we need to go back to specialized positions, playing their traditional roles.
I'd also like to ban the legal obstruction/dummy runner play that now accounts for the majority of tries scored in games. It's boring to watch. I'd also like to re-introduce playing the ball with your foot.

| That bench is very weird.
Don't get the idea of Widdop on the bench unless Sinfield will be moving to 9 at some point at Widdop goes to 6.
Wilkin shouldn't be anywhere near the 17 and should be replaced with a prop.

| Quote Sebasteeno="Sebasteeno"What a load os 54it. You get shown up for wanting to include a player whos injured (and its been mentioned in this thread already) so you then make out Lomax is pretending hes injured just because Chase is in the squad.

Grow up little boy.
I know he's out of the squad. My point was that would have been my preferred option. On the injury front it's only me summising but he knew Chase would get in ahead of him so maybe he felt getting his injury seen to would be best? No evidence just thinking aloud.
So where did I get shown up exactly?

I'd go along with that. The emphasis on getting a quick PotB, or preventing it, has created whole new technical skill set that is rather dull to watch.
Winning the collision should be about breaking the tackle or getting a pass away from contact. Finding your front is effective but not very entertaining.

| So Widdop, who was the regular 6 for the minor premiers in the NRL and is actually English looks on as a Kiwi, for whom England isn't his first choice, takes that position on the field.
Great way to show the younger halves they'll get a chance! International RL is a laughing stock.

| Quote Wilde 3="Wilde 3"I think it is sometimes irrelevant these days who is named at 6 or 7.
Chase will play like he does for cas, on the edges. Sinfield will probably take first receiver. The fact one is named at 6 and one at 7 is largely redundant, in my opinion of course'"
I agree, Sinfield will be the leader in the team, will take the kicking duties and 1st receiver.
With the whole Chase thing, most teams in most sports have done this for years, if you cant beat them join them.

| Just out of interest, all the debate on here about Rangi Chase playing for England, would you (all) have put the same argument if it had been [uWillie Manu [/uselected for the England team?

Ridiculous isn't it. The thing with Sinfield is a strange one. For Leeds he is their heartbeat, Mr Leeds, everything goes through him on the pitch and off it and he is the man who galvanises the side. The problem is he does not have the same influence with England due to the lack of time they spend together so his value to the side is diminshed. I'm not sure he would even get in my 17 tbh. I'd rather play with out and out halfbacks and I like the look of the back without him.
I do rate him but just not sure his effect at international level will come close to what he does for Leeds at club level.

| Chase should be no where near the England team. So what if he's spent all most all of his playing career here he's NOT English plain and simple. Now Heighington is a little different imo. He's got English in him due to his mother but still should he really be in the team? I think not.
International RL is a joke and will never be taken seriously, why not give the English youngsters the honour of representing their country not a foreigner!
