I think it is pretty futile trying to guess where you are with the cap. Firstly, you don’t have many of the relevant numbers. Secondly, the rules are so complicated and opaquely written, that I don’t think fans [ireally[/i know how the cap works. The clubs must get additional, presumably confidential, information because what is publically available would require a long FAQ sheet to be useful.

I suspect that the owners are happy for fans to read what they want in to the rules. If you want to believe that your club, which is spending more than most of its rivals, is successful mainly because of good management and developing young players - go ahead. Want to believe that your lack of success is due to the constraints of the cap, rather than an inability or unwillingness of your club to spend more? Again, you can do that.



Only the part of his wage above the threshold is discounted though. I’d guess, and certainly the general consensus on here seemed to indicate, that his original deal with you was well below that threshold.

It's not about reading it differently, try reading the whole paragraph again, it's a general comment about how fans might interpret the cap rules.
